What Car to Buy to Use Daily and Autocross?

Despite that I think you might still be better off with the Boxster (if you like Boxsters) for one reason- PCA. Here in Norcal, at least, we usually have as many or more PCA AXs as SCCA, etc. And we usually get 8-10 runs vs 3 at SCCA, so you gets lots of extra course time. Add the schools, etc and having the option to run PCA is very nice to have.
If you like the early 996 they are great deals right now; I'd take one over a Boxster...

The boxster is my preference, I am just looking for a good deal and will probably pull the trigger on the best value I can find.
I'd go for the Boxster like Pete mentions above. PCA offers great AX venues with lots of runs. San Diego PCA has a great AX scene and uses Qualcom.
Boxsters are the best deal going. Used Boxsters are going cheap - old boxsters are a steal (Under $15k)! You might consider going with an old 2.5 Liter Boxster as POC is running a Spec Boxster class. You could do short track series at Streets of Willow and really get some use from the car beyond AX.
Here is a little 2.5 Spec Boxster on Thunderhill: http://barrickpickeringracing.com/TH...ong_033107.wmv

and those SCCA types really are annoying, i would drop autox for that reason alone
if you really want a car to have fun in and be competitive in while living your normal life...an EVO is really one of the best cars for the job...rapes in many autox's and on the track can be competitive with nearly anything that doesnt have over 500 hp and a great driver...
true...i have seen evo's on track and they do quite well. if you get one think about replacing the front diff with a quaife unit. i have spoken with some owners on track and they told me it was the weak point (besides the clutch) in the drivetrain. apparently, people think they have blown the transfer case but in reality its the diff inside the transfer case? dont quote me on that, do some research.
