he's got a pretty sweet setup. sound proof room... B series 2 liter Honda street motors on 91 oct. pump gas can make over 300 bhp! K sereis 2.4 liter Honda street motors are hitting about 330+ bhp with gobs of torque...

Hey Chad-

No matter how long the project takes, I appreciate you keeping everyone updated. At this point it would just be cruel if you ever stopped updating. I rarely post but have read every single post from the initial threads on funcars to rennlist and then here and still check in every few days for updates.

Thanks for the hard work, investment, and willingness to keep this thing going.

Here is an update. It isn't what I really wanted to hear, but we need it done right.

Apparantly there are some valid concerns regarding the boost we will be running and the seal at the heads. We were going use the EVOMS head gasket and o-ring the sleeves with one o-ring. We have decided to still utilize the EVOMS head gasket, but we will groove the heads utilizing two o-rings and grove the sleeves ulitizing a single o-ring. This should provide use with zero worries to 2.5 bar.

We will lose six days shipping each way and approx. three days at the machine shop. This will set us back a total of two more weeks. :( Sorry for the bad news.

any more updates?

Alex,

The bottom end is together. Because of some information we recently recieved regarding blown head gaskets we revisited this item. Origionally we we going to use the EVOMS head gasket with a single o-ring added to the cylinder liner. Now we are going to do the above but we are also o-ringing the heads and adding dual head o-rings. To do this we are having the heads machined for the dual o-rings. Should have the heads back in about two weeks.

Heh.. sounds like someone is prepping the motor for _more than_ 30PSI:cool: You can't be too safe... you're right.

Hello there once again, Chad. :)

Quick question, what color will you be painting the body? Any particular scheme you maybe have in mind?

CLS 04-25-2007 12:20 PM

As far as I have heard he will be maintaining the original color of the car no plan to change. See post #95 for color of car.

Chad just go the 962 route and weld the heads to the cylinders. You can still detach them and reuse them if needed. Why chance it with o-rings and such? You are going all out so don't leave a weak spot.

Liners that have a beryllium top ring/ flange allow us to run far more ignition timing and boost as the ring helps with the In cylinder temperatures under load. The whole head/ flange combination can be run without any head gasket. The passages are o ringed and the cylinders are sealed by a beryllium fusion ring. I don't believe anyone on the 996tt scene has done this or taken the approach where the devil in the detail all has to do with lowering temperatures for the purpose of pushing the timing. This along with ceramic coated cylinders, piston domes and exhaust ports go hand in hand to produce power that people haven't realized on these motors to date. I gave a little bit away sometime back when I said our head temperatures were averaging 500-700 degrees F lower (depending on load) than other 996tt head temperatures.

Welding would work, but we believe one of the tricks we used to run lower temperatures would suffer if the heads were welded. But you are spot on with welding as far as holding the heads in place. :) We are keeping our fingers crossed that we can acccomplish both without welding.

The heads/liners were received this morning. I was told it will take two weeks for them to machine the o-rings in the heads and liners and another week to have them back in S Car Go Racing's possession. :( That means we should have the heads/liners back May 23rd.

We were holdng off sending the car to ERP for the wide body and additional suspension work until after the motor install. Due to the final motor assembly taking sooooo long we are toying with the idea of sending the body (without motor) to ERP now.
