Recently I just went over this with my wife. It looks like just under $7,000.00. I'm sticking with that story.

Alex,

This is the part Rob has remained mum on. I do know they are hydralic lifters. These things are really trick. The tops are not flat. They have a domed narrow strip down the middle and are extremely, extremely light. I believe it is vario timing but not vario cam.

The cams we are using would produce an extreme amount of exhaust backpressure on most turbo's out there. To solve this problem we are using a little higher A/R TO4 shell ratio along with a inconnel impeller with a backswept rather than radial design.

Heheh that should cover the tech art bumper, CF hood and possibly the sidskirts. Otherwise it'll cover the Pauter and Carrillo rods....

This is where it gets really complex. There are three camps, chucking out the Variocam completetly, doing what you're doing or then sticking with variocam. There's obviously pros and cons to both but ultimately when you're talking really really big power and with Motec you should just dump Variocam. However you're sticking with the stock ECU so....

The one with Motec I'm just not willing to do at this point... the one you're going down hasn't been fully done/proven yet and even if/when it does I'm not sure I'll have the cajones/$$$ to do it.

Then again I do have this stupid-*** tiptronic

PS Why is it all of four TT motors that have had bent rods that I've heard of come from the Bay Area?

One more thing totally unpower-related that still really bugs me about our cars is the weight. **** I've taken out over 380 pounds and the car is still heavier than my EVO....

Alex,

The biggest drawback of the solid lifter cam is having to pull the motor to adjust the valves. Now ........... we are talking racing versus street cars. I don't intend to pulll my motor for each tune up.

So besides you and myself, who else has bent their rods?

Maybe that or the Bay Area turbo owners are crazzier than others?

I'm guessing we'll hear about other folks with bent rods some point in the future

Anyone with in excess of 600 rwhp will eventually bend their rods. It just becomes the degree to which they bend. Killer Angel bent them so bad they were hitting the crank. Others will bend to a lesser degree and the owner won't even be aware of the problem for awhile.

I was aware of mine through the ticking noise of the rods hitting the crank. How did you become aware of your's Alex?

One of mine _started_ to rub the crank also making some noise. I had some suspisions and was going to tear it down to do rods in any case. Figured I could no longer live on borrowed time

Alex,

Aside from the above, I was watching your last acceleration runs with a little interest. You seemed to hit a brick wall after a certain boost level. You kept saying the car wouldn't perform at high boost.

I noted your turbo shell had a .58 A ratio, but I didn't hear your R ratio. In the back of my mind I couldn't help to think that your problem wasn't the motor but the impeller you were using with your turbo housing.
