beauty is gas mileage is improved with these mods as long as you don't floor it all the time. i was able to get 36 mpg highway modded vs. 32 mpg highway when stock.

I have an 09 Jetta TDI Sportswagen with the 6speed DSG and it is a super little car. It has good torque, gets 31mpg in town and 40plus on the highway driving a steady 80mph. I am pleased with the car. We live in a hilly area and it goes up long hills very well, no noticeable turbo lag and the DSG is a great gearbox.

I just picked up a 2010 Jetta TDI sedan last weekend and I am loving it. The car comes fully loaded with everything to make my commute comfortable, I.E Bluetooth, multifuntion steering wheel, sirius sat radio, trip computer, ipod plug-in, heated seats and more. I have averaged 40 mpg so far and diesel fuel is about 5-10 cents cheaper that regular gas right now. This car should cut my fuel costs in half which equals about $200+ a month. I would have loved to get the wagon version, but I couldn't see paying $2,000 over MSRP for the wagon. I am really impressed so far!
how much did you pay? I was just quoted $30,238 hard loaded for a 2010 TDI jetta.

The Jetta TDI is a great choice. You have to know a few things however. If your commute is relatively short than a diesel might not be your best choice. Also, being that heat is a byproduct of inefficency, the diesel takes a bit longer to heat up. Again, being that you live in a cold climate, and have a short commute, than you might experience a lack of heat as it takes a while to warm up. Lastly, there is a premium for the diesel engine over the comparable gas car. Depending on your annual mileage, that premium might not be justifiable. Just a few things to consider!

would my commute be considered short? I drive 50 miles one way each day in Dallas/Fort Worth traffic. (100 miles RT daily)

I bought my '06 TDI new and loved every minute of it. 65K miles on it now and I regularly get over 50mpg on my 30 mile commute one way(1/2 highway, 1/2 city driving). and that's with doing 77 on the highway. Stoplights, wind and heat will bring down the gas mileage but generally just to the high 40s. If I can go 50-60 mph without hitting stoplights or slow traffic I get mid-high 50s for mpg all day long. You should notice better mileage as your engine gets broken in...they actually become more efficient.

I'd really recommend getting the 6 speed manual rather than the DSG transmission. No problems with the DSG and if that's your thing go for it, but it requires a costly service every 40k miles (service for the tranny alone will run you like $600+). The TDIs will last a bazillion miles, so I'd buy it if I was buying a car to put a ton of miles on - to save more money, the 6 speed service costs are waaaaay less 
. Feels better to drive too, first gear is way better.
