jetta tdi for DD?

Anyone have a new jetta TDI for a DD? I'm looking to get one possibly in the spring time for a commuter if I don't sell my vette. Looks promising for what it is.

I test drove the 2010 jetta TDI and it is a very nice car. You can hardly hear the diesel engine and it has decent pickup as well. The redesigned interior is much nicer than the previous one. Most of the incoming TDIs at the dealership have been sold.
My friend has a 2009 TDI SportWagen for a DD,and he loves it! He has nearly 40K miles on his!

That's a common opinion I hear from a lot of people, which has only led me to pursue one even more as a DD. I'm looking at hopefully getting into one this spring. I was next to one in traffic and could hardly pickup on the different exhaust note.

i have a jetta 2.0t dsg as a dd and really like it. comfortable, quick and well equipped for the price. i think vw is one of those 'sleeper' brands that are good value in the market, and i'm sure the tdi is no exception. i didn't know they redid the interior, will have to take a peek!

The Jetta TDI is a great choice. You have to know a few things however. If your commute is relatively short than a diesel might not be your best choice. Also, being that heat is a byproduct of inefficency, the diesel takes a bit longer to heat up. Again, being that you live in a cold climate, and have a short commute, than you might experience a lack of heat as it takes a while to warm up. Lastly, there is a premium for the diesel engine over the comparable gas car. Depending on your annual mileage, that premium might not be justifiable. Just a few things to consider!

CohenFive,
for 2010, the Jetta TDI wagon gets the new front end of the new 2010 Golf, however the Jetta sedan does not. But the interior is revised and in my opinion, looks very upscale with different instrumentation, steering wheel and the dashboard

I just picked up a 2010 Jetta TDI sedan last weekend and I am loving it. The car comes fully loaded with everything to make my commute comfortable, I.E Bluetooth, multifuntion steering wheel, sirius sat radio, trip computer, ipod plug-in, heated seats and more. I have averaged 40 mpg so far and diesel fuel is about 5-10 cents cheaper that regular gas right now. This car should cut my fuel costs in half which equals about $200+ a month. I would have loved to get the wagon version, but I couldn't see paying $2,000 over MSRP for the wagon. I am really impressed so far!

I've been considering getting one for a dd as well.. My commutes are relatively short though, and the diesel would be most advantageous on the highway, so I'm not looking at the 2.0t.

i have an 09 tdi wagon and it fits my great dane in the trunk for my huge 3.5 mile commute. I've taken it on trips and for commuting its great. with our 3.5 mile short trips full and ac on every day i still get 34 mpg and it only has about 4500 miles on it.
on longer trips it will do 45ish mpg with ac on. i have the dsg 6 speed and was wishing they would throw in an extra gear or two that way your not riding higher rpms on the highway. i believe it would get over 60mpg on the highway if they added a gear or two...or just spaced them out (since FL is 70 on the highway)

3 years no maint.
a car for my girlfriend to drive that i dont care what happens to.
a small fuel bill.
all things that are good for me

I got 45mpg on my 57 mile commute this morning, and my drive includes some stop and go traffic, and a twisty 8 miles uphill section.

Wow, I had no idea that diesels got such good mileage! What are the downsides? Is the power okay for a commuter?

I'm driving a volvo C30 right now (turbo 5 cylinder) and I'm averaging 25.5mpg) over a 60 mile drive every day. Not impressive to say the least but the car is fast...

The VW diesel might be a great option for my next go around, which is coming up soon at the rate I'm racking up mileage. It's an 08 with 55K miles.

My cousin traded in his Mini for one. On a 60 mile commute he averages 46 mpg and is saving almost $200 a month in gas. He loves it.

The power is actually pretty good. Hardly any turbo lag, and it really gets up and goes. It only has 140hp, but it has 237 ft lbs of torque to make up for it.

There are also aftermarket chips to make even more power and torque.
check out www.vwvortex.com and www.tdiclub.com .
There is also a TDI Club edition coming out in January. There are pics and articles at the vortex site.
