anothervr6kid is infamous around these parts
i had (now by brother-in-laws') a 00 jetta (manual) and 02 golf (auto) tdi and they were great for a daily driver, road trips and anything else in between. Can't complain on the MPG but they aren't the fastest... if you step on it you loose the MPG.

I did a few mods to the TDI to make the 130 mile a day commute a little better.

a question for the people who have owned a vw diesel for a while, what's your opinion on the build quality. it's my understanding that there have been complaints recently regarding vw's built in mexico, poor quality.

we recently did the euro delivery for a 335d for my wife and i have to say a diesel is the way to go. 100 miles round trip commute plus 100 on the weekends out to santa cruz. a vw diesel would be a great commuter but i'm skeptical b/c of the quality concerns (not just from hearsay, my sister-in-law has a 02 jetta and there's always something wrong with it).

The 335d is a great car, Congrats!
I have over 37,000 miles on my 2010 Jetta TDI commuting from Santa Cruz to Belmont and it hasn't had any real problems. I had a door skin bolt go missing which I replaced for $5, but other than that it has been perfect. VW quality was known for being really bad from the early 90s up until recently, but they seem to have improved a lot. The fit and finish is as good as my Audi A4 that was replaced with the TDI.
