wheel storage, wall hangers install.

Difficulty rating 1-10: 4
Cost: $75.00 shipped
Tools needed:
Power Drill
Drill bit
socket set
socket wrench
level
measuring tape
stud finder
pencil or marker

I recently made some wheel racks using closet maid parts from Lowes. didnt really look great but they were functional.

Then I came across Griots hangers. I purchased the shorter length ones because I liked the way they display the wheel. Once you receive your order, it includes the necessary hardware.

First thing you want to do is find the stud.

Mark the width of the stud.

Line up the hanger so that at least two of the holes line up within the stud width.

Use the drill bit and drill pilot holes. Use the enclosed bolts and washers, then drill one of the bolts to hold the hanger in place.

Use the level to make sure it is mounted straight.

Once the bolts are all in use a socket wrench to make sure they are tight. You only need 4 bolts drilled into the stud to hold 225lbs.

The size of the wheels I have are approximately 27" with tires. I wanted to leave 3-4" between the wheels so I mounted them 31" from the middle of the pole to pole.

Slide the wheels on and your done.

The 305 series on 11" wide wheels fit perfect!

the install pic worries me a bit....the 2x4 stud (which is really 1.5x3.5") would be nearly impossible to drive 4 of those bolts spaced like that into a stud without splitting out the side! probably should have just done 2 bolts...one at top, one at bottom in the center of the stud.

I just the TireRack storage system. Also doubles as a nice shelf when the tires arent in use.

i actually like your first setup better. instead of wrapping them in a towel use some pipe insulation . inexpensive. i dont like for the spacing of the griots mounts. your at the edge of the studs rather than the center of the stud. hate to see a wheel fall off the wall
