michelin tires cracking?
michelin tires cracking?
Hey guys I have ps2 tires, but I noticed my fronts are getting some form of small little tears right above the arrows, its weird cause the rears are the ones that wear faster, could this be the alligment?
thanks all
thanks all
hard to tell without pictures...alignment problems usually cause more wear on the inside edge...over inflation can cause cupping but underinflation can cause unusual wear on both the inside and outside edges...if you are seeing cracks in the sidewall the tires may just be old and have lost their elasticity...need more info from you on the exact PS-2 tires (N-1, N-2?) and how long they have been on the car and a pic of the wear problem if possible

the tires are ps 2 N1 they are approx 9 months old and they have like 7,000 miles on them..

I see the pitting...is one picture a front and the other a rear? while that pitting is unusual perhaps you drove on some gravel or a rock road that caused it...odd that it is only in front though...is your car lowered or do you have non stock wheels/tires?...that pitting could be caused by rubbing in the fender well under load or hard braking

still need more info...that is very unusual wear to be caused by an alignment issue unless the alignment is causing some rubbing but even then the wear should be even and not pitted...have you owned the car since new...do you know when the front tires were put on as opposed to the rears...it is odd that the rears don't show the same pitting and since these cars usually go through rears twice as fast as fronts it is possible that the car was driven on a gravel road that pitted all four tires but the rears have since been replaced and don't show the pitting...maybe Damon at tirerack or some of the other tire/wheel guys have seen something similar and can be more help
