How Old is too Old for tires?

I bought a 1 owner, 2006 CS with less than 5000 mi. If I'm reading the tire manufacture date code correctly, they are original 2006 tires. I will probably drive it less than 5k mi/yr. The still look new, no cracking and plenty of tread....but they're now 9 years old.

I have read warnings about buying cheaply priced "new" old tires because rubber can degrade over time. Are they fine and can I just drive them until they wear out? Any expert recommendations appreciated, Thanks!

This is just my opinion, and I am not a professional tech....

It depends on how the car was stored to be honest. Rubber reacts to the expansion from use and the sun, essentially.

I dont have experience with 9 year old tires, but do with 7 year old tires.

I drove on a set of OEM GY Runflat tires on a car with 987 miles. They were 7 years old, and performed as if they were 1 month old - perfect. That car was not driven much, as the mileage reflects. That said, the car was stored in a climate controlled environment, and didn't see much time on the road or sitting in the sun.

I had my Michelins pilot super sport for 9 years. Only after almost 10 years of service I started to notice certain signs like too much vibration and noticeable cracks in the sidewall. Of course I don't recommend to wait for 10 years to change tires. Only a few brands can compete with Michelin and only a few drivers can compete with the way I take care of my tires. Some cheap rubber needs to be changed annually especially after some reckless driving.
