I'm not looking to mod the audio at all but I just want a simple way to have AUX input for my Ipod so I don't have to carry all my CD's around....

I know our cars have a CD changer input right? Can we use that?

Did some research online and found Dension but don't think they make anything for our cars....?

You're kidding, right? Dension does have an iPod solution for our cars, the Gateway 500. Works great. There's also Nav-TV and one more which I can't remember the name of at the moment. And FYI it's the PCM, not PASM. PCM is the Porsche Communication Module with a monitor. Does your GT3 have the PCM unit? PASM is the Porsche Active Suspension Management system.

I don't think he's kidding, the opinions are mixed at best. I don't think any of the aftermarket kits work that great. I'd consider the porsche tequipment solution. May not be as fancy as the denison, but at least it will work.

 

Chris - you are quite alone in your situation. Ask PorschePhD, he has it, and it works very well in his 997 Turbo, as it does in nearly every other. We are convinced after two units, that your installation, or possibly head unit (not you, the car), are flawed. It works very well.

i can highly recommend the Dension 500, but not for PASM integration

You have to use the cd changer input, but if there is no cd changer installed in your car, you have to activate it with the PIWIS at your Porsche dealer, i think you can´t DIY.

 

I had the CD changer in mine but I've since then removed it.

 

Sorry brain fade, meant the PCM and Yes I have that in the GT3.

TT surgeon: Is the unit you are talking about a cheaper plug/play solution from dealer?

Eric: Does that unit require a trip to the dealer to program anything or just install and use?

Personally I don't think the Porsche solution is very elegant. It basically works through the radio as a separate "station". You don't see the song names, artist, etc. Frankly I'm disappointed with Porsche for coming up with such a poor iPod interface.

As haudimal pointed out, if you already have the CD changer in place then you won't have to get the dealership to program your car.

 

That's a great price, though it is still a lot of money for what should be a simple application;i have 7 CD slots and i'll keep using them unless something for $200 comes out.

I cannot understand why a company cannot come out with a cheaper and less complicated method to connect an ipod even though i understand it may be no easy task to undertake due to the Porsche design of the PCM...

Get the NAV-TV iPod adapter. It connects into the MOST ring.

 

I'm not sure I like Nav-tv mainly because it's a bit cumbersome upgrading the firmware. Right now you'd have to remove the entire nav-tv module and send it to them for upgrades. With the Dension unit, you'd just put the upgrade file on a flash drive and plug it into the USB port. It doesn't get any easier than that.

 

Tell me about it. I spent $500 on the Dension unit for iPod and then another $750 for the Tooki just so I can get Bluetooth in my car. I guess that's not so bad if you consider the fact that the factory phone module from Porsche is $960 and the CD changer is $650. The thing that really got me is that I'd already gotten both the phone module and the CD changer. Well, consider that a lesson learned. You can get the Dension iPod unit and the Tooki BT unit instead of those two factory options when ordering your Porsche.

 

Dension and NavTV BOTH connect to the MOST bus. Dension is an R&D company that developed the technology. Both units work similarly. If you have a CDC in the car now, you likely won't need a trip to the dealer. If you do not have a CDC, you may need to have the MOST ring reprogrammed to re-identify each node on the bus. Simple 15 minute job with a Porsche System Tester (PIWIS). As for cheap - yeah, get an FM modulator. Cheap-yes. High quality full digital sound ported to your system-NOPE. And that is exactly what is in store from tequipment - an fm modulator box that you cannot control from the PCM...and for about the price of the Dension!
