09 Turbo Tip Cab vs 10 Turbo PDK Cab

I'm about to pull the trigger on a heavily discounted 09 Turbo Tip Cab but I'm having to make concessions on color and features. Would it make more sense to build and spec an 10 and pay full tab. Really struggling on this. I would love input. Hard to turn down huge discount.
Thanks!

This is your question to answer: Will the money saved offset the loss in choices of color, options, and the transmission. Only you can answer that as you know how much you want to spend for the items. For me, Id spend more money and get everything Ive always wanted in the car and the PDK. I have the DCT in two of my cars already and its an amazing piece of work.

2010 Turbo Cab has the "cheaper, integrated dry sump" engine. NO THANKS. look further, you'll find 09 tt cab for you for cheap! alot out there still. i would consider 6MT

I never considered having anything other than a 6speed MT until recently. however, after driving a few dct/smg cars recently, my next car will be a pdk 997 turbo with paddles. I would never consider getting a tip- i would get bored quickly. however, the pdk is faster than the 6-mt and gets you the best of both worlds. In addition, i believe the new engine is a plus- 20 more hp. i'm an avid racing fan and have done some track time myself, so i understand the importance of a dry sump motor in the current turbo (and 996tt). However, for most of us who don't keep our cars forever and don't primarily track our cars, the new motor will be just fine. in short, go for the new 997tt.

The money you save by buying a tiptronic car will be lost at resale after the PDK cars are out. You will also have a much smaller buyer pool due to the same reason. I personally wouldn't buy a tip, but would definitely buy a PDK. Good luck which ever you decide.

My opinion: if this is a lease or short term ownership, if you change cars every couple of years, I agree it's a touch choice. Either way would be ok.

But... if this is a potential longer term (say 4-5 years or more) ownership, and if it's a "special occasion" for you to own a car of this caliber, then it's a NO BRAINER to me that you get exactly what you want and forget about the money saved (the fact that you are considering it tells me you could afford it). No concession on color; no concession on options.

This means (I am assuming here that you could afford it and the kids won't go hungry because of it ): get the new 2010 Turbo PDK with torque vectoring and sport chrono plus, and if possible, PCCB. I believe this car will be a monster on track and streets.

My Turbo is down 50k since I bought it. Do I have any regret? Less than zero. There is no car like it as far as color and options, and I am not willing to make any concession, and I fall in love every time I look at it (LOL, (half) kidding). Live and pay for the fun of living.

My advice would be to get the car you really want. If the color of '09 doesn't suit your fancy now, chances are you would like the color even less over time. Colro is an uber important consideration. That said, I have an '09 Turbo Cab that I recently picked up at an extremely nice discount, but it was optioned almost exactly as I wanted it. No brainer for me!

For this type of purchase I order the car the way I want it, and I've worked a long time so I can afford tab and the inevitable loss if I want something different down the line. If the details make a difference to you and you can afford the price of admission order the 2010. As far as the loss of the GT1 split case engine for new A91 engine, unless a major reliability problem develops, few owners will notice the difference. The 996TT has the GT1 block and it has done nothing to improve resale values which says a lot about what drives the used car market.

if you going to mod it go with the 2009, if your keeping it stock, go with the 2010. i would rather have a 700 hp tip, than a 500 hp pdk. food for thought.

I say get what you really want. You forget about how much paid for something after time. The big discount will only keep you satisfied at the time of the transaction. As time goes, you will feel that something is incomplete with your car. You are about to spend a lot of money, don't make a decision that you will regret later.

I think most people will not notice the difference between the GT1 and the new engine block. However, if you decide to extensively mod the power output for the car it might be an issue? I thought the new block can't handle as much power as the GT1 unit in high hp setups?

If you plan to mod it beyond 600HP, get the Tip.
I've very bad experience modding my dual clutch Evo X over 100HP. It can handle 50-100HP mod fine, but to handle more than 150-200HP mod you 'll need additional tranny cooler, pump, clutch packs, etc.

go with the "get what u want" addage...if u dont you wont be happy

that said, throughout the country there are plenty of 09 cars left over that will be discounted

i wouldnt worry about resale now, tip vs pdk...it a matter of a small amount of $ in the long run, and something you wont think about as you enjoy the car

good luck

herb chambers in boston has 08 and 09 cars available new
