FAQ's on Brembo 2pc Rotors for the 996TT

From time to time, we get some questions about the 2pc Brembo rotor upgrade for the 996 Turbo. So I thought I would outline some of these. This has been a very popular upgrade for those looking to enhance their stopping power. You car view the actual product info page here.

Are the rear discs going to be available in 2pc.?

Unfortunately not.
Based on the physical requirements of the integral drum style hand brake, as well as the physical dimensions that would be required of the outer disc and rotor connecting hardware, it was not possible to develop a lightweight, full floating, rear application.

Are the front discs going to be available in slotted?

At this time there are no immediate plans to release a slotted version for this application.
Based on the unavailability of a 2pc. rear option, the decision to only supply the front system in cross-drilled was made in order to remain aesthetically pleasing, matching the look of the OEM rear discs, while still offering as many of the benefits of a lightweight, full floating, motorsports style, rotor assembly as possible.

Are drilled rotors going to crack if used at the track?

Not necessarily.
The use of drilled rotors does not automatically lead to cracking during aggressive use. As a matter of fact, the phenomenon of "heat checking" and cracking is not exclusive to cross-drilling, and all rotors have the same potential for cracking when they are exposed to excessive amounts of heat without the proper thermal capacity or cooling ability. While it's still a more common recommendation to use slotted rotors if you will tracking your car - a high quality, properly drilled, premium, cross-drilled rotor - can and will provide exceptional results in all high performance conditions when used with a suitable pad compound.*

*This is not the same for any cross-drilled rotor as material and build quality is of outstanding importance.
A properly trained Brembo dealer will be able to educate you on the appropriate pad to provide the best possible results for your intended use.

Is there anything about these Brembo rotors that resists cracking more so than other options/brands?

Absolutely. The use of higher quality materials combined with unique manufacturing and testing processes, support the ability to provide a brake disc with a higher resistance to thermal deformation and/or cracking. Brembo is the only company in aftermarket braking who through the control of their own foundries, has the thorough knowledge of metallurgy and ability to control the entire industrial process to provide state of the art brake discs.

Brembo rotors are cross drilled using a specifically engineered drill pattern which predicts the the size, location, frequency, and champher depth of the hole, based on the discs physical diameter, thickness, air gap, and vein structure, and then drilled one side at a time, followed by a series of unique quality control tests, before they are plated for corrosion resistance and finally packaged for shipping. That, combined with the use of a proprietary metallurgy yields the highest quality, most resilient, and longest lasting rotor option for the Porsche 996 Turbo and C4S.

Will 2pc. discs require any special care or maintenance?

Brembo's 2pc. discs are developed to be lightweight and full floating through the use of a billet aluminum hat and specifically engineered rotor connecting hardware. While during practical use there is ZERO additional maintenance or care, replacement of the disc once it has met it's life expectancy does require the use of new connecting hardware. When properly assembled and installed on the vehicle, the billet aluminum hat is also reusable, leading to a long term reduction in the cost of consumable wear for replacement rotors and pads.

will you be making a 2 peice rotor kit front and rear for 997TT brakes?

Good question. Yes we do have a front and rear kit for the 997TT. Here is a DIY on my own 997TT - http://www.vividracing.com/blog/proj...d-on-vr-997tt/. These rotors are 350mm front and rear and feature all the same benefits. They are available in slotted only. The 996TT rotors are only 330mm. Clients can upgrade their 330 front and rear rotors with our new Plus1 Bracket to 350mm front and rear.

can you get the brackets in CF or chrome?

The brackets are not really visible as they go between the wheel carrier and caliper. We have them hard anodized for strength. CF would not work and chrome would just get scratched.

The car I'm looking to buy is a 996TT X50 and the owner has upgraded to the 997TT brakes already...so I guess your 997 rotors would be a simple swap once the current rotors need to be replaced?

On a sidenote, I'd like to get the 997TT calipers on this car I'm looking at painted or powdercoated to yellow...any thoughts on who can do that, I'd like for it to be a real clean job so that there is no peeling, bubbling or scarring of the calipers down the road...
