Wheel and tire size fitment help
Hey guys. Well I just bought a 01 996 turbo. I really wanted a 997 but just could not get myself to spend the money as and going to build a new house next year and I got a screaming deal on this car.
OK it is a RWD conversion car so no worry about the front diff.
Plans will be to put this car in the 600whp range by next year and it will be tracked and autocrossed as much as possible but primarily street driven.
Going with forgestar f14 so offsets can be made to whatever needed.
Also note that and fender rolling and modding is easy as I have a full prep shop at home and build many cars.
I'm debating somewhere on these line
265/35/18, 335/30/18
265/30/19, 325/30/19
255/35/19, 325/30/19
265/30/19, 305/30/19
I'd really like to go with the 325/30/19 rear but being such a large diameter idk how they are going to fit and look on a 996.
Thanks in advance. Really excited, car I'd getting shipped from cali up to me in North Dakota. Should be here late next week.

fakestars are shyte. trust me, though sure. they "look" ok. but 19's is anyones guess. at least the 19's don't need RINGS to fit the hub. ugh.
get yourself some decent 18's roll the liners and go 235/40 ( or 245 ) x 315/30 and don't try to reinvent the wheel lol. porsche got it right, unless maybe a 9 in front if you're tracking a lot. stable, and then some. if you need the look of the 19's? dial it in with suspension and lower it.. not a bigger less optimal wheel for 996t. lowered on 18's beats 19's any day.
then get some of that shine off the sidewalls and enjoy!
rwd ?! even better! i just got sideways, thanks to rwd

245/40/18 and 305/35/18 NT01s. Suspension tuning and driver technique takes care of any understeer. Not an issue if you are competent driver. Remove PSM. Don't waste your $$ on 888s, they are horrible track tires.. 18" wheels for performance, 19 for bling..

Honestly I'd like to run 265/30/19 and 325/30/19 but idea how well the rear will fit. Those sizes tire selection is great. It is only .3 taller than a 305/35/18 though.

Problem with 305/35/18 is there is no real tire selection. It's nt01 or 888s. In my area neither of those are great for normal driving. North Dakota has some interesting weather.

could run a 305/30/19 which would be the same as the 305/35/18 just less sidewall and way more tire choices again. I'm just concerned about traction issues when I start pumping up the hp. Yes the rear engine helps but idk how much. This is my first porsche.
c6 z06 and vipers with 325-345 tires I've been in all blown their tires out like it's nothing below 60. I want to minimize that as much as possible

Is a 295 enough though tration wise when you start pushing the hp on a rwd only car? I honeslty asking guys, like said this is my first porsche.

it's not the size that gets you its the compound, 275 in a drag radial will hook up great in warm weather , our issue is up here in the cold that pretty much no soft summer/ performance tire will hook good in the cold. And really between 295 and 305 the width is really close. I'll probably try the Michelin supersports next

Here is a probabaly even dumper idea but has anyone run an 18 front and 19 rear? Many cars now days come with 1 inch larger rears so I don't see a big problem with it. Then I could get the diameter and wide wises and tire selection I'd like
265/35/18 front
305/30/19 rear
The overall size of the rear is 1 inch larger keeping that large contact patch like the 305/35/18 but with larger tire selection. Front I can keep the 265 for turn in and with the 25.3 diameter I won't have to mod the front much to prevent rubbing.
With those sizes I can get Hankook rs-3s for track use which I have been fond of in the past and for the price you can afford to be hard on them. Then lots of selections for normal steel tires as well

also, you should really give at least some consideration to the p zero for rears ( if rwd ) and dont need to match front to rear? as they are about as solid 2nd place ( imo ) to either the pss or the ps2 ( best ) but the price ( $575?! per!) of the michi's had me switch from my go to tire of choice ( pss/ps2 ) because of the insane cost coupled with a frustrating lack of availability.
i got p zeros from tire rack at $347 per recently and even saw recently they had 315/30/18 at $196! per and that won't ever be beat for an N rated tire that was once an oem fitment. just sayin', you could do a lot worse than p zeros. especially if it's a dual duty car and you track without swapping wheels/tires etc.
you dont wanna track with 19's though. nah... lol
though another option available in the gt2 fit of 235/40 X 315/30 is the goodrich g force, also @ roughly $350 rears and maybe $200 front. the new version are re-designed/improved(?) and i've heard good results on them, but never had em. if i cannot source pirellis again, i'll try a set of g-force.

Just got my second set of rivals though 'S' version this time in 245 and 335, nothing but good things to say about them in the mountains. I would imagine you're going to have a difficult time with those aggressive widths in 19, its not plug and play even with 18s but its probably a lot easier.
