ALMS Action: The Mobil 1 Sports Car Grand Prix Continues in Canada

They might’ve changed the name to “the Canada Tire Motorsport Park,” but the track is still Mosport right down to its DNA.

Muscle Milk Pickett Racing brought home yet another dominate victory from pole position in the P1 class.  Dyson racing was never a challenge finishing seven laps behind the leader. The DeltaWing team’s day ended just sixteen laps into the race.

In P2, Level 5 Motorsports’ claimed another victory to extend their points lead over rivals Extreme Speed Motorsports.  Level 5 team owner Scott Tucker started in car number 551. Level 5’s second car was piloted from pole position by stand in driver Mike Conway.  During the second round of pit stops Tucker handed the controls of the number 551 HPD ARX-03b to Marino Franchitti and took over car number 552 from Conway. Franchitti went on to pass his team owner as well as The Extreme Speed Motorsports car of Scott Sharp. Sharp eventually got past Tucker resulting in a first and third finish for Level 5 Motorsports.

In the Prototype Challenge class, CORE Autosport captured their second class victory of the season moving them to the PC class lead. The CORE Autosport team fought hard for their victory. The number 5 ORECA FLM09 car pitted for tires then was ordered to return to the pits for a pit lane speed violation. Driver Colin Braun came back from two laps down, setting the PC lap record on his way to victory.

Corvette Racing got the win in an extremely close GT battle. The number Four Corvette of Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner finished just a slim 0.27 seconds in front of the number 91 SRT Viper of Marc Goossens and Dominik Farnbacher.

In GTC, the number 22 Alex Job Racing entry, driven by Cooper Mac Neil and Jeroen Bleekemolen, was completely rebuilt after crashing two weeks ago at Lime Rock. With the newly rebuilt Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, MacNeil and Bleekemolen set fastest lap times most of the weekend and fought hard in a close GTC class battle for the win.

The next round for the ALMS is Sunday August 11, 2013 at Road America in Elk Heart Lake Wisconsin.
