Aston Martin DBS Superleggera: Beauty is Absolute

By -

Aston Martin pulls no punches with DBS Superleggera. They know it’s the best looking super car out there.

Aston Martin describes it’s new DBS Superleggera as the pinnacle of the Aston Martin production range, and one look will have you believing. The brand has long been the go-to company for sex appeal and charisma, now, with DBS Superleggera, it really does take things to the next level. Of course, Aston Martin, a British sports car and super car maker unlike any other, has a certain way with words when talking about the DBS Superleggera.

From Aston Martin themselves: “It is both a shining light expressing the most beautiful automotive art and, at the same time, a dark and menacing shadow of brutal, unequivocal strength.” You won’t hear a company like Toyota, for example, talking about it’s sports cars like that. And it’s not just Aston Martin singing its own praises, either. The YouTube comment section, normally an area of vitriol and malice, is brimming with compliments and emojis with heart-shaped eyes.

So, Aston knows it has something good on its hands. But what exactly makes the DBS Superleggera so special? Well, Superleggera is Italian for ‘super light,’ and the DBS certainly is. Compared to a standard DB11, the Superleggera has more aggressive body work, which is all the better to tuck in larger wheels and tires. That rolling stock stands broadly and firmly with widened tracks, 10 millimeters wider up front, and 20 millimeters out back. Of course, those larger wheels hide larger brakes, too. They are carbon ceramic units, used on all four corners. Though, Aston Martin all of these components have been lightened, and stiffened, as much as possible. After all, it is a Superleggera.

Similarly, the 5.2-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine has also seen tweaks. A free-flowing exhaust system and an extra 3 PSI of boost result in a massive 715 horsepower and 663 lb-ft of torque. For those keeping count, that’s 150 lb-ft more than the DB11. That extra grunt combined with the 159 pound weight savings over the regular DB11 (down to 3,732 lbs), makes this one of the fastest Aston Martins ever made. Oh, and did we mention the looks?
