Ferrari 458 crash raccoon

We understand why you wouldn’t want to clobber a raccoon with your Ferrari 458, but crashing it is not a better option.

If you think your day is going bad, just be thankful you aren’t the Los Angeles area driver who crashed their Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta into a ravine while trying to avoid hitting a raccoon.

Reports from NBC Los Angeles indicate there were no injuries in the crash, just a major bruise to the driver’s ego. It is also reported that even though the incident happened in the early hours of the morning, the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The crash simply happened because the driver took evasive action (too much evasive action) and hit a guard rail, which then sent him into the ravine. Unfortunately, the driver tried to save the car’s front bumper, and damaged the whole thing in the process. Pitched considerably far into the ravine, the Ferrari had to be yanked out by a tow truck.

You can obviously prevent this from happening to you, and we do have some suggestions on how to handle indecisive creatures on the road. Sadly, one of the safest ways to handle a situation like this is a “take one for the team” approach. It may seem morbid, and it might cause your car damage, but it’s far better than losing complete control of your car and risk injury to yourself or others. However, there are parts of the US with wildlife much larger than a raccoon. In those cases, avoidance maneuvers are your only option. However, the only way to avoid the same fate as this Ferrari driver is simply to be more alert, more attentive and slow down according to speed conditions. One thing we know for sure, panic maneuvers typically result in bad outcomes.
