Imagine yourself in a Porsche 918. It’s one of only three hybrid hypercars on the planet at the moment. It’s faster than a Bugatti Veyron, and looks absolutely spectacular. Plus, top exit exhausts.

If I had just one day to drive any modern car I wanted, it would easily be the 918. I am a Porsche fan at heart, and everything about the look, speed, noise, and technology that create the 918 is something that I need to experience in my life.

Germany isn’t the only country in the world that has sections of their roadways de-restricted. In parts of the Australian Outback, there are stretches of roads tens of kilometers long. The Australian government has decided to allow de-restricted speed on a 72 kilometer section of roadway, and Porsche wanted to celebrate.

Drive.com.au’s Andrew Maclean is a man to be pitied – despite the fact that he got a chance to fly around Oz’s picturesque Phillip Island in a Porsche 918 Spyder.

In their latest Head-2-Head video, the folks at Motor Trend put race car driver Randy Pobst behind the wheel of both the McLaren P1 and the Porsche 918 Spyder to do hot laps around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Now as some of you know, to get into some tracks, you have to get through a sound test first. This usually occurs when there are noise restrictions on said track. It’s an easy enough process.

The rules of the supercar world have once again been rewritten. The arrival of the hybrid Porsche 918, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari have had an impact on the very nature of how owners perceive speed and performance that will likely not be matched or eclipsed for a decade or more.
