2015 Dodge Viper

The Dodge Viper is one of the few vehicles sold around the world that uses real people to perform the majority of its construction. Of course, machines are used where it makes sense, but Viper has a small team dedicated to the handcrafted experience.

Dodge recently released a fascinating video documenting the entire manufacturing process. Titled “DNA of a Supercar,” the video, shown below, chronicles every aspect of the car’s production, from the forming of the custom carbon fiber body work, to the assembly of the aluminum 8.4L V10 power plant.

The video also gets into the nuts and bolts of the 5th generation Viper, which makes 645 hp and 600 lb/ft of torque. That’s a small increase over the 2014 version. Power is still transferred to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. Despite pressure to do so, Dodge still hasn’t offered the Viper with an automatic transmission option.

The price has also been significantly lowered for 2015 to help increase sales. New Vipers now start at $84,995. The new price puts it squarely in competition with the Z06 Corvette. But does the exclusivity of a lower-volume car combined with the hand-crafted nature of the Viper make it more desirable and increase sales? Let us know in the forums!
