Transmission question

2011 Porsche 911 Turbo (6 speed manual)

I recently had to replace a spring in the shift lock assembly due to two gears stuck together in my manual transmission. I dropped off my car at a Casino Valet and when I returned, they told me they couldn't get the car out of 4th gear. The car had to be towed to an independent shop for repairs. The Casino refuses to pay the bill because they said it wasn't negligent so I am now taking them to small claims. The shop owner told me me that this was rare and hasn't seen before and believes it was due to faulty shifting, not a wear and tear item. The problem is that I have been asking him for a statement about his diagnostic and opinion as to why this spring broke. For some reason, the owner of the shop is hesitant to give me a statement. I explained to him that I will need something to prove to the courts whether negligence was a part of this problem.

If there is any Porsche experts that can give me some information about this type of transmission problem, I would greatly appreciate it. This is my last resort. Thanks

Well, I'm not a lawyer but if the shop won't give you something official regarding its diagnosis I think you are SOL.

I have used valet parking with my Porsches zero times so I have no experience but my 2003 Turbo a pristine car with just 10K miles on it when I bought it suffered a broken shifter one day with me driving the car and I was not guilty of faulty shifting. The thing just broke. Never had a shifter break ever before. (The one in my 2002 Boxster with nearly 300K miles is original. The replacement shifter in the Turbo has over 120K miles on it.)

Unless you get something in writing from the shop owner -- or someone else chips in with something that you can use in your small claims court case -- I think the shifter just chose that time to fail.

If the valet service was responsible for the shifter linkage failure be thankful that's all it was responsible for.

The important take-away from this is you need to seriously attempt to avoid using a valet parking service when you are out and about in your Turbo.

That was a very good reply, when i pull up in my 991-GT3, its a given that they allow me to park it up front on my own. See they want the responsibility of parking 180,000 car. And trust me, i dont want them either. Understand the "stall" in the PDK can cause an accident if not familiar. That being said, i do have one resturante that has the same person always who i trust. But it has taken years to see him park cars of all sorts. Be fortunate it broke where it did, and not somewhere desolate!!
