I show that they built 1560 cars. Of course, 200 of the cars were the "lightweight" version, and 1360 were the "touring" version.

They are asking a "lightweight" price for a "touring" car.

 

F40's command more in the collector market with the racing pedigree of the iconic 73 RS. I expect prices to continue to move in the direction of $500k for the lightweights and $300-350k for "regular" RS examples. I expect the relationship from a market pricing to the 289 vs. 429 Cobras.

I have a '73 RS narrow body with a factory 2.8 RSR motor.....it's absolutely intoxicating to drive. The early cars have a totally different feel than either the SCs or carreras. It even seems more tossable than the GT3RSs. I like to see the value go up, but on the other hand that may make me less likely to really run it at the track.

 

That's a good reason to build a replica car and keep the real one for sunny days. Though, I am glad to hear you track the car and enjoy it.

 

There is a 1973 Porsche Carrera RS Touring car featured in this month's Sports Car Market (June 2008, p.56).

It is Ser# 9113601115. And Light-Ivory.

It has a documented racing history. It sold for $425,575 in Paris at Bonhams. The engine isn't original.

I am just an underfunded little guy. I do not have the funds to race a real Carrera RS. But I can hit the wall in a fake RS as the circumstances dictate.

There are two different track cars:

• The ones that have hit the wall.
• The ones that will hit the wall.

My car is currently in the second group, but mine is a fake. And I know that I'll wreck the tub sooner or later. I'll just rebuild it and go forward.
