911 SC Engine (1980?) – Worth??

I finally got around to cleaning out my garage. Is this worth anything? I believe it came out of a 1980 SC. Please help me determine a value.

Thanks,

Team Trim

there might be enough basic parts to start the process. new cyclinders and jackets will ne needed, and a hydralic tensioner, maybe cams and shafts. new cat and air pump, and all the tubing and wiring to get the engine to life. It looks it possible, at about 10k to 15k. these are great cars once they start running strong. check out my 79 with 326kmiles on the car, and about 166k on the refreshed engine. runs strong. jl

As a core motor, most likely it has some broken head studs (they all do) about $2,500.

FWIW I sold my 1980 911SC last year for $8500. I would guess a motor by itself would be $1-$2K depending on condition etc...

You really can't put a price on a rebuild until it's disassembled and parts checked and measured.

Mark, your absolutely right. In my situation the engine was taken apart until the problem was found, a faulty main bearing. Had to get deep in there to solve the problem. and then the issues are what to replace when putting it back together. studs, like you mentioned. oil pump for sure if you're in there. chains, gears, etc. and most shops are billing by the hour, right? cheers, jl
