best mods for a '87-'89 3.2??
best mods for a '87-'89 3.2??
Just sold my '08 997S and want to build something special. (I've owned Porsches since I was 24 ---- long time ago)
Now considering an '87-'89 3.2 and would like any ideas regarding mods for this model. I'd like a moderate bump in horsepower without sacrificeing the legendary reliability. Also what suspension mods have you guys done that worked well?
I'd love to hear any ideas, successes or failures.

Thanks for the reply. I really thought there would be a lot more input??
To add to my original post, I am also considering an '83SC. Also it will have to pass California smog so that has to be considered. It will be a long term car so I'm not afraid of dropping a few bucks to make it right.
I fully expect that whatever car I get will end up with the engine/tranny coming out for rebuild/mods.
I've even looked into putting a 3.2 with G50 into the SC. Would love to hear from anyone who has done that.
Also interrested in suspension mods. It will be a street car with occasional club autocross and maybe the occasional track day at Willow Springs.
Also interested in suspension mods.
Happy to hear from local SoCal shops who would like to get involved.

Cat by_pass involves removing the catalytic converter and replacing with a non cat device. I picked up a used Fabspeed one that I'm very pleased with. You have to be careful if your car still requires passing emissions though.
Torsion bars, sway bars, shocks first.
Turbo tie rods.
Cat bypass and Steve Wong chip.
Then you must do some autocross and track days.
After that, you will be looking at seats, harnesses, track tires and wheels....

We can help with the suspension, no problem. But it's not one-size-fits-all. How do you plan to use the car? This will dictate the best mods and upgrades.

I have an '89 3.2 with 964 cams and a Steve Wong chip with the factory Motronic injection going in my '71 (original) 914-6. I can't wait to see how it runs. I am told the 964 cams really make a big difference in the 3.2.
