Finally got my dream car
Hi guys- I finally am about to take delivery of owning my first Porsche. Its been a dream ever since I saw Tom Cruise in Risky Business. Granted he drove a 928, but just his line "Porsche, there is no substitute". Ive always wanted a 911 whale tail. Im settling for a 1999 911. I have a coule of questions here. 1-The paint is a dark blue. Is it best value wise to keep the car in original or would a custom color be just as good. 2- I want to add a spoiler. I realize this model has a spoiler that comes up at 50ish mph. Would adding a spoiler detract from the value? Any other tips/advice for adding value to this car? Im planning on taking it to a few shows. Its not a show stopper but it would be fun. Thanks all

Is it a 993 or 996? Both ( air cooled 993 and liquid cooled 996) overlapped in 99.
forget that. My bad. Last year of 993 was 1998. So you have a 996. Lets see some pics.

It is scheduled to be picked up later this week and delivered early next week. Here is a pic, and yes youre right its a 996 because Porsche stopped the air cooled the year before. Liquid cooled also provides more power. So I have two questions (this is both for you and for the general forum): 1)- I want to get a spoiler for this car. Yes Im aware this car has one that comes up at a certain speed. I like the looks of a particular one (D2S P996-W2). The main spoilers rising can be simply disengaged by two wires in a relay by the passengers side foot area. What do you think about this. 2)- Im thinking of getting the car painted repainted but I dont want to detract from its value. Do you think its better to keep the factory dark blue or would it hurt to get a custom color? Tia

Might try a fixed rear spoiler. Many styles to choose from. Here is one choice. https://www.ebay.com/i/252802193458?...CABEgL28fD_BwE
If the paint is in good nick, id say just get a good paint correction done. Changing the color will cost mucho $$ if done right, like door jam, under front etc. it would have to be stripped down to do it right.

Congratulations on your 1st Porsche. Before you do anything cosmetic, (paint & spoiler) I would make sure the car is completely up to spec on all of the maintenance. Your car is 21 years old so it may need some overall maintenance. Once you get all of that done, just drive it for a while and keep reading on any of the Porsche forums to learn all you can about the car and generally what adds and what detracts from value. Remember, just because it is a Porsche does not mean you do not need to know how to drive to keep from balling it up. Good luck and have a lot of fun.

Good advise! I was thinking about that myself the other day. I took it out for a small spin around town and was reminded why I LOVE stick shift so much! I have it covered in storage so Im not worried about the elements but Im gunna get it in for a good look over at my local (1 hour away ) porsche dealer. Gunna get it all tuned and up to spec then Ill be racing all the vettes! NOT!! Thanks for the tips!
