New guy, rear spoiler question

Hello all, just wanted to introduce myself as a new 996 turbo owner. The previous owner did some mods to the car and I had a couple of questions. What the hell is the deal with all these spoilers on these cars? I don't get the double deck spoilers. It makes them look so cheesy. Currently it has the GT2 from Misha I believe. I don't get how people pay this kind of money for such low quality bad fitment parts. I say that because I own and operate an auto body shop. I don't even touch parts this bad.

Anyhow, is there any spoiler out there, 1. not so gaudy/ricey, 2. doesn't look like someone stuck a spoiler on top of a spoiler? The lines on the car are so pretty, then the add-on spoiler just screws everything up.

I got a hold of the stock decklid which looks like it has a spoiler already built into the part itself. I'm thinking of just molding the spoiler onto the deckled and make the entire thing 1 piece. The hydraulics are probably broken or going to break anyway according to all the forum members. At least the fitment would be correct and it won' took like I stuck a spoiler on top of a spoiler.

Interior: I have never seen a car with interior this bad. Well, maybe BMW's. For a 150k+ car when new, the interior pieces just don't hold up. Do you guys just paint them? The main dash looks like it's coming apart as well. I just can't believe these high end cars are such crap. I love the engine, but working on these cars over the years, everything else just seems very low in quality. Any help would be appreciated.

If it's this one,

http://www.suncoastparts.com/mm5/gra...humb_5_big.jpg

It also looks like a spoiler on top of a spoiler. I think the techart might be the best choice. You guys don't see what I'm talking about? Being functional is one thing, but man, they gotta do something back there!

The stock spoiler that raises and lowers is functional. It's not just for show, it's for down force. I haven't seen the Misha one in person so I can't speak to its quality or functionality, but the ones from Porsche are the way they are for a reason. Just my .02

I have a Techart T1 spoiler here at my shop I'm willing to sell if you're interested. It's a spoiler that's a direct fitment for the stock hydraulic upper aerofoil on the factory decklid.

This is a picture of the spoler from another site, but I can take an actual picture of the one I have if you are interested. It's fiberlgass that I'm aware of and could be molded into the factory decklid given your line of work and skill. It's currently painted in what I believe they called Graphite Gray(FWIW I also have an OEM rear 2002 deckid as well if you need another to mess with)

To the OP, I agree with everything you are saying about the rear spoiler. Rear spoilers were nice on Porsche Turbos when every other car on the road didn't have one. I removed my upper wing and the crap hydraulics. 2 broken units in 17K miles is too much for me and I never liked the look to begin with. I now am running with just the original rear deck with the ducktail lip that reminds me of the '73 RS Carreras. I'd really like to make some covers for the ram holes that will give it a finished look. My Natural Brown full leather with a shiny Basalt Black painted console and black mats still looks like new, pretty nice in my opinion.

How old are you guys??? Didn't know people were so sensitive. The car doesnt suck. I was just saying for being a high end car, the quality of the cosmetics, not performance, is sub standard. I've had many Porsches come through my shop over the 30 years in body business. I just think the quality of the interiors are weak. Just trying get some feedback on how to refinish them without buying all new piece. Jeez...

I think I'm going to do the same except I'll fiberglass over the holes. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I don't think they are being sensitive. They are just asking you a legit question. I mean...none of them used the question marks excessively.

The thing is most people don't buy a 911 for the interior. Audi, Benz, and Lexus all have superior interiors. Food for thoughts.

Thank you. You made my argument. I didn't buy it for the interior either. I just wanted to know how everyone was handling the worn finishes. I operate a car wash as well, and I see these cars sometimes not even a year old having same issues. Other than that, its got to be the best car I've driven.

If I'm going to buy a car for the interior, I'd buy a Maybach or a Rolls. Not so much in a car I'd plan to toss around Calabogie or drift down the onramp of the local highway
