New Member Looking for Feedback on '91 RS
Am I cazy? I'm thinking of cashing out of a 996 CS4 in order to "invest" in a less expensive but sexy looking, rebuilt, track ready, 1991 RS. The question is this: which car would be least expensive to maintain for daily commutes and monthly track days? Because a high performance shop would be doing all the maintance on the car, I'm assuming that the track-ready RS would be the less expensive way to go. But let me know if I am wrong, or if you have other ideas for a low-cost ride! Last competitive days on a track were in a Super Seven on the no longer existing Orange County Race track! If NASCAR has a "Seniors League", I might yet try some head-to-head racing before I'm too old for a license! ANY advice (besides stay off the track!) would be appreciated. Great forum by the way. -- One Old BirdHog

An 'ole Lotus guy like yourself would be doing damn fine in an RS. They are great daily cars with a good track prowess. They were Porsche's 1990's version of todays RS/GT3 which is noted for it's excellent ability on the track and street. We have several customers that use their RS's for this exact reason. There is every compnent under the sun available for them, plus they are dead reliable.
I say ditch the water buffalo and get ya an RS!

Check out the Willow Springs track, it's a classic. Basically unchanged form the 50's, NASCAR ran their first Calif. race there; it has nice elevation changes with interesting corners. NASA (www.nasaproracing.com) and many clubs have track days there.
Thanks Chris and Aaron for the advice. Do either of you want to buy a cheap 966 C4?
I am going to SERIOUSLY consider the switch. S-Car-Go Racing will be maintaining the car. I'll send photos ... SLA, I'm sure I'll eventually get down to Willow Springs. There aren't really THAT many tracks in CA!

The feel of the RS is pure magic compared to the watercooled cars unless you are talking about the GT3, do it, you will not regret it. I am building a 73'-74' RS clone myself, they are awsome, raw and true to the driver which is what it is all about IMO
