New here with my 968

Hi everyone. I just got myself a Porsche 968 a month ago. Hoping to get to know some of you a bit better and learn a thing or two about Porsches.

I browse this forum a couple of times but never signed up cause I only had Japanese cars before.

I wasn't planning to get a car. But when I saw it advertised for sale I just had to check it out. It would make a great dd, cause my other cars are just not for everyday. The car was running fine and the interior was near mint condition. I paid around 6500usd for it and it had about 190k kilometers on the clock. the body has its fair amount of scratches. But everything is automatic and all the electrics work. Although I need to upgrade that cassette player sometime.

Anyway the car started having some overheating and starting issues, so I decided to get it checked out. Opening the head revealed problem with the head gasket, belts, and both intake and exhaust camshafts were missing teeth......how did that happen?

So now I am going to take this car on as a new project and try to restore it as best I can.

I would ask for your help to identify these parts just to make sure I got them right when time comes to order. It would also be helpful to know where is a very good place that stores porsche 968 parts.

thanks
here are some pics of the parts and the car.

welcome welcome

not uncommon to see cams like that - happens a lot to cars when owners neglect the variocam - from the looks of the balance shaft belt (the shredded one) the car has been in need of service for a while - take the time and go through it

lots of sources for parts - poke around on the websites - google "porsche 968" and you will get a lot of resource info - i don't know about resources in bahrain - if you were here in l.a., there are good shops that sponsor this site

thank you guys for the welcome. Not as many members surfing the 968 section as the other newer 911 models huh? Its all good.

I found a website, autopartswarehouse. anyone dealt with them before?

As far as I know. I need to get, head gasket kit, camshafts, camshaft chain, camshaft chain tensioner, timing belt, timing belt balancer, timing belt adjuster. no redundancy here right? specially the last two

You didn't check the car out when buying it? 944/968 are expensive to fix up. Good that you are handy or else you could be paying thousands into repairs. Congrats and welcome to P-car family
