Model year question

I am a 997 owner but have been interested in owning a prized piece of Porsche history (a 930) for some time. It will be an 'add' and not a DD for sure. An opportunity has come up out of the blue for a 1988 model and I was interested in getting some perspective from this august body on the relative value of this model year. Though I've done some research over the years, I have some basic questions that I want to nail down unequivocally:
1. Just to be sure, is 1988 a valid MY for the 930 turbo?
2. Relative to other years, what are the positive and negatives for this year. I understand that early and final year models (1989) have the greatest value but I may be wrong here.
3. Of the 930 run over the years, which ones have the greatest value from a collector sense. Truth is, I am neither a collector nor an investor per so, but don't want to be buying a 'bad year' (if the 930 even had one) of such a great car.
4. What are some of the key areas to look out for in the 930? Areas to focus on in the PPI, weak points that are likely to need early service, what to look for in the cars service records to be sure it was well maintained?
Any other comment are of course appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
V
