Will the 991 turbo be tri-turbo?

There are rumors that the 991 turbo will be tri-turbo:

Pure Porsche: Will 991 turbo be tr-turbo?

0-60 Magazine: Will the 991 turbo be tri-turbo?

World Car Fans

Any dealers out there that know if this is true or false?

And because it will be PDK-only, it will be fast but numb to drive, ala the GTR. So it won't matter if it has 6 turbo's....

I've heard this rumor for the last two years now. One turbo for down low, etc... smooth torque curve.

agreed, numb and probably disappointing in a lot of ways for the manual 6-speed enthusiasts here including myself. If it is a tri-turbo as the rumors allude to then it is likely due to the need to boost the low end power/torque resulting from the smaller 3.4 liter engine. hence a smaller third turbo can spool up quickly to compensate in the lower range (2K-3K) and then the larger twin turbos would kick in around 3K+

either way I bet all the official specs are going to be quite impressive in terms of the 0-60 times, track/lap times and 1/4 mile etc

3 turbos plus all the plumbing will make the car heavier. I'll take a new GT3 instead.

How much weight does a turbo (and the additional plumbing) add?

Just curious.

Wow - all the convolutions Porsche makes to stick with the flat 6!

Fifty years of tradition, unhampered by progress!

Mostly kidding - the current TTS is an engineering marvel. And insanely fast!

They are bullheaded Germans. At one point some smart aleck probably scoffed and said, you need to put a V8 in there if you want real horsepower. The rest is history...
