Update on GIAC Flash???
To Clarify...TechArt is NOT using GIAC software on their car or in their packages. You might be thinking of the shop car of TAG Motorsports, which is a fellow GIAC partner, and currently running the GIAC flash. Coincidentally, their Turbo S also has a full TechArt body kit on it.
So we have the GIAC Flash on our Turbo S - The switching (stock, pump, race mode switching via the handheld loader) is being wrapped up and then some final tuning will done as well. GIAC Also had their Dyno go down last week which slowed the process down but its back up and running.
Expect to see some updates in the next week or so
Correct - Thanks Tom

Sorry if this should be a new thread starter ?
Any idea how much the tune will be ($3000) ? And will the tune be switch on the fly like the Techart ?
Techart utilizes the sport mode button to switch back and forth between stock and modified tune. In addition, fuel is compensated similar to a "flex fuel" method by adding/ replacing/diluting between 91, 93, and 100 or more octane, at will.
By no means am I a Techart Ambassador nor do I recommend one tune over another. I'm simply relaying the information my Technician received from Techart yesterday.
The serious drawback to the Techart is the cost @ $6k vs $3k(?) for GIAC. Techart backs their product with a 2 yr warranty (that claims) if PAG feels the tune was the cause of issue. I do like this piece of mind coverage on my 991tts with 2.6k miles on the clock. But $3000 more ? Maybe one could plan to set 3k aside for GIAC and use the difference for a rainy day ? Who knows.
However, I've decided to take my chances and go with the guys at T. I'll post results once tune, gmg headers and CBE are installed and run at the drag strip. I do have some runs at the strip completely stock so I will provide data as comparison; sorry folk but dyno numbers do nothing for me.:roll eyes:
The winner here is us. Its good to have a choice in tuning options on a platform so new!

Would definitely be of interest to see results from just the hardware upgrade, and then results from hardware and software upgrades combined. Otherwise no idea what the contribution of each individual mod is.

Sorry, I can't really comment on cost, because I just don't know it yet. That will be part of the upcoming release announcement...so stay tuned for that.
I don't know too much about the TechArt powerkit but just based on what I can see, it looks like a piggyback type of setup. Basically what these piggyback setups do is alter voltage readings to the ECU essentially "tricking" it into producing more boost. In this case, it looks like they use the Sport button as an on/off switch for the piggyback box.
The GIAC flash is completely different. Just like ALL of software GIAC produces, the the 991 Turbo/S software is a true ECU flash. This means that it's a full write of the ECU, just like they have done on all Porsche models in the past (996, 997, Cayenne, etc). I'm sure GIAC will explain the technicalities of it in their release, but trust me...there simply is no one else programming these cars in the same way they do. This software is well worth the wait.

Very true. I will try to do the power kit, then exhaust; but if my temptations get the best of me, I'll still post and it is what it is. Sorry, I should have clarified my goals

Yep, but nobody has explained whether one method offers more parameters relevant to performance and drivability or any other advantages/disadvantages for that matter. I know TPC has a piggyback set up for the 981 platform but no idea of their success.
I do know that it takes minutes to load/install/uninstall the Techart Powerkit in the event a DME recall and reprogram is necessary. I have no idea how a write-to-ecu addresses this nor the labor costs with the GIAC; if any. Does the ecu have to be sent back to the tuner under ANY circumstance that affects changes to the ecu ? The flash loader may have something to do with this but I guess we will know for sure in a few days.

Really TTS?
Sorry it took a little longer then planned to fine tune, test, and eventually perfect flashing capabilities for an entirely new platform with an entirely new ECU structure. I should have asked all the other tuners out there how they got it done so fast. Oh wait, there aren't any!!

The flash (along with some surprises which will explain why we waited) will be released most likely tomorrow, so everyone can just finally relax.

I still don't see a promise.
Nowhere do I read that Champion promised an announcement date, release date, or even guaranteed to publish any data on an open forum. The phrase "Very soon" is as subjective as your comment "too long in development."

Will the flash be available for both TT and TTS?
