Funny thing - the R-tronic was much reviled by auto journalists, but the guys that own cars equipped with the R-tonics seem to like them alot (the trick seems to be to let off on the gas and then shift). I have no experience with the R-tronic - my previous 2 R8's were sticks and the V10+ I have now is the s-tronic. The S-tronic is wonderful, as is PDK, but I miss having a manual transmission.

I get it about storage space - no comparison there. Enjoy!!

cephas is infamous around these parts
I went look at the R8 this weekend.....seems like the TT / TTs is the way to go.
Now the debate is between 14 leftover TTS or 15 TT or 15 TTS......

In the 6 months since this thread began, I likely became the only person who has owned both. I traded my V10+ for a 991 TTS. As an avid "defender" of the R8 V10+, I grudgingly had to admit that the Porsche is a better car. Not as rare, not as cool sounding and not as attention grabbing - but in all other ways, a better driver's car.

PDK v. S-tronic: PDK is a smoother and more seamless transmission than S-tronic, which had a tendency to be jerky at times.

acceleration: Porsche is quicker.

Handling: On the road, either car has more grip then anyone can use but the Porsche just feels more willing to turn-in and feels more agile.

Bakes: either ceramics work great, but the Audi ceramics are a bit grabby at low speeds is grabby

Infotainment system: Porsche better and Burmester sounds better to me than the Audi's B&O

Steering: still prefer the hydraulic steering of the R8, but the Porsche electronic steering feels fine.

Build Quality: both are very good

Overall refinement: Porsche

Either car is wonderful, but I get bored with cars quickly and after 3 R8's I was ready to get back into a turbo, which I am enjoying immensely (for the time being . The Audi next gen. R8 will be out next spring, so we'll see.)

lol! I completely agree with R-tronic vs S-tronic. The single clutch R-tronic was the deal breaker several years ago. Couldn't stand it - bought something else.

So much right with this thread. A lot of good info/suggestions/opinions.

Both are awesome, depends on personal preference. Wife prefers R8 over 911, but would have been happy with either. But she's a fickle woman (I know, redundant), and now wants a Stingray Z06.

Had a V10 Spyder and after 2 years got bored with it. After owning 3 prior P Cars the R8 just did not do it for me in anyway. My new Turbo S is amazing in every way and I am glad to be back with Porsche. Got a lot of looks and stares with the Audi but I am getting a lot of compliments and feedback with the Turbo S as well. I have never filled up without someone coming over and admiring the Porsche. The Audi had the MT and after a while the clicking noise got to me. This is my first automatic car and it is great. The PCCBs are amazing and there is no dust to clean!!

I really like the looks of the Porsche better than the Audi.

I'd just like to add, the R-Tronic is a complete tragedy...so glad they went to a proper DSG unit in the R8 eventually.

Between the two, i'd go TTS! I do feel like the R8 looks a bit more 'exotic' but performance wise TTS hands down.

Thanks Cephad. Was never a gray lover till I saw this Agate Gray on the lot. Now it is my favorite color. A buddy changed his order from white to agate gray after seeing my car.

Trip tragic trans

I agree with Cephas.
I had a 2011 turbo s cab and lost my mind for a bit and traded it for a R8 V10 trip tragic tans. I gave that one to my wife and got another one for myself. Biggest mistake ever! That trans is horrible. They are both gone to other homes and now they are somebody elses issue

I has a Targa 4S on order. We'll see how that goes. I think I see another TTS in the future however.
