Looking ahead for the next Generation 911
Looking ahead for the next Generation 911
So I am thinking down the road about my next 911 Turbo. I copied this from the internet:
Porsche 911 (1963–1989)
Porsche 930 (1975-1989) a turbo version of the original 911
Porsche 964 (1989–1994)
Porsche 993 (1995-1998)
Porsche 996 (1999-2004) all-new body and water-cooled engines
Porsche 997 (2005–2011)
Porsche 991 (2012–Present)
The 997 was out for six years and the 996 for five. The Turbo for the 991 did not come out until 2014. So if my math is correct there is nine years between the the first 911 997 i.e. 2005 and 2014 for the 991 Turbo. So if Porsche does the same nine years from from 991 2012 the next gen 911 TT would be 2021.
Does this sound correct?
I have two cars and have been using my TTS has a weekend car and I am currently averaging 200 miles a month with the Porsche. I was debating either buying an M4 to replace my M3 as my DD or just make the TTS my DD and take the 95K that would have gone to the M4 and put it towards my next TTS.
Opinions...

The TTS is a solid daily driver if you don't need to carry more than two adults and don't need lots of luggage space
Of course if you do put tons of miles on it you'll kill the value of the car in terms of resale. However, if you intend to drive it into the ground regardless then it doesn't matter.

Got mine a month ago and 2K miles on it now. Got ya beat on a per month basis! LOL. Will probably drive a good 5k miles between now and the time I put it away in November. I'm past the point where I give a **** about miles on most of my cars. With the exception of my Ford GT's, they are all depreciating assets. Some faster, some slower.

That's why they were made!! Glad you are enjoying. When I get mine (which I hope is soon) it will get a lot of use.
Yeah mine is a year old now and I have 8500 miles. It is my daily driver and not all that worried about the miles. The Turbo is meant to be a DD. If it were a GT3rs or something more limited I may be more concerned. It's a hell of a car to use on a regular basis and when the miles get to high I'll just buy a new one. I would be more pissed off having a 3-4 year old turbo taking 50-60k haircut and having a garage queen with 5 thousand miles on a car I never used.
I may get a hauler again to have. It looks like the new land cruiser is out for 2016. Would be nice to have something bigger for errands and the dog.

Glad to hear so many are driving their cars and not just collecting dust in the garage. I am leaning towards using mine as a DD this fall, sell my 2004 M3, and take the cash that I would have used for buying the M4 plus the equity from the Turbo and buy the next gen TTS..
The 911 Turbo is just an awesome car to drive. Many here have been touting how great it is for everyday use. The only short fall in comparing the 911 to the M4 is storage space and useable back seat. I have had my M3 for 11 years and the back seat has been used maybe 4 times. Now the bigger trunk space with the fold down seats I have used a lot more. But my wife has an SUV so if space becomes important I could always use it.
I just was coming to a cross roads with buying the new M4. I found myself desiring it as it would be a great replacement for my older M3. But you can only drive one car at a time. The M4 is a great car IMHO but it is really not comparable to the TTS.
So if you had to guess how much lower dollar wise you would loose trading in or selling this car in with say 60K miles compared to 15-20K would be if I kept it 5 to 6 years...
And what year would you guess the next gen TTS will come out in...
