Shift Sector COBB Tuned 991TT Vs. GIAC Tuned 991TTS- THE ANSWER!
Cheers. You've been extremely patient and awesome Tony. We will have that stage 4 pumping gases into the atmosphere for you very soon. Sooner than you think!
On another note, let's not forget Turbo Mike's IPD/Cobb stage 2 running just 1/2 mile per hour slower than Nigel in the same day within a 1/2 hour. 163.5!
On another lighter note, now Turbo Mike says he's coming at us all with stage 7 lol! Wait, knowing him I believe him!

Well, I'll say I was pretty disappointed with the way my car performed. Even though I never lost a race, (only had 5 of them due to late Sunday start) my cars best trap was 161 mph. My mods include the GIAC Stage 2 tune and GMG catted exhaust. Last time out on Stage 1 I trapped 166 mph. They apparently shortened the track to provide better stopping distance.
As the day went on, the head winds pick up which was effecting everyone's speeds. As an example of one of the races I was looking forward to was against a brand new Huracan with race exhaust. He was trapping 162 mph all day Saturday. Something's a little weird about his claim to be stock because there was a white Huracan there Saturday that was trapping 151 mph. Anyway, we raced and I beat him pretty bad (I'll post video later). I trapped 160 and he trapped 158.
I think the most important and crystal clear thing this race day demonstrated is that these mods do make a big difference. With essentially nothing more than a tune, I destroyed a stock 911 TTS and I beat everything else in the 600hp range. Two more examples of this is I absolutely crushed a brand new 650hp Zo6. I'm talking 20 car lengths. The same thing against a new 645hp Viper.
We still didn't have the opportunity for a true apples to apple situation between Cobb and GIAC. Marks car doesn't have headers, IPD Plenum and IPD Y-pipe. Obviously these additional mods would have made Marks car much faster, or White991TT wouldn't have them. There wasn't a Cobb stage 2 car for me to race. I think the red 991 TTS had a Cobb tune, but I'm not sure what the details are. If so, I destroyed that car. Simply put, if I want to go faster, I need to keep bolting on more of these great mods

Sorry to have missed you out there Sat CPI guy. You may hear mixed reviews out there about manifolds and IPD parts being viable upgrades. So I'm not sure if it's a fair statement yet. Or at least we can get some believers to pick a side and nonbelievers to pick a side and stay on it. Again, keeping it real, those aren't guns. But I tell you what, if you do believe in them we can get some of these awesome parts over to you to improve your car!
I'm going to kick it up a notch on some prep and completion of some more kits this coming month. Even with SEMA in the way we are going to get it done. I won't even get into how busy the boys at Cobb are around the world. But anyhow, we will really keep in touch and get an organized set up with everyone being there every day at the next event. Solid and fair. We can try to lay out a map so that everyone will be happy with the results. No cracks or holes. Then they will be what they are. We can band together and take out all the other metal that shows up! See, back to the Coke and Pepsi thing. Soda drinkers unite not fight

I'm pretty sure the "naysayers" you're referring to have all issued congratulations at this point....so how about putting your guns down and relaxing a bit. I like the old "let's all get along" Sam a lot better...
I was just asking what I thought was a legitimate question. I don't understand how HP and TQ translates to speed at these events, so that's all I wanted to know. But nevermind I guess...

Anyway.... Moving on...
Sam - I look forward to my Stage 4 with upgraded turbos. We are beyond 991s we are looking at competing with 918s now....

Sam knows me, and I know Sam. He knows my post was coming from a good place.
Ignoring the pump vs race tune issue, I still only saw a 2mph increase at the 1 mile.
Obviously the torque doesn't really come into play in a 1 mile race, but I would think that a 25whp increase should be good for way more than 2mph.
So if anything I'm left with more questions than answers at this point.
My point is that every compliment you pay is followed up by a qualifier casting shade ... Don't act innocent Tom ! we aren't stupid.
I think we all said what we needed to say. The hippie is back dudes! Lets all just share the love for soda and everyone can decide what they want to buy and drink.
Cheers
Shifter, Hi. I think you are running my stage 3 map that the guys sent over. Its set up for my kit and there is a hardware difference. I think you may benefit from getting it dialed in as this is the first AP on your set up. And there is technically no Cobb Stage 3 yet. Its a By Design Stage 3 Kit and we know there are some differences. I would imagine it will improve. It wasn't slower! Dialed in it will make a difference. In the meantime you can see how it feels for you in all other forms. There is more to it than pure 0-1 mile which is not a tuned stock VTG strong point anyhow. Don't keep anything you don't think is a better product for your needs. Kudos for doing all you did and went through on your crazy adventure! I hope it all works out. Keep us posted.

My question was legitimate. In drag racing, for example...there are very specific and calculated ways to extrapolate HP from trap speed, 1/8 speed, 60', etc. There are also was to deduce decreases in ET due to decreases in vehicle weight. Point is, although there are a lot of variables, there are ways to determine ahead of time how much certain changes you make to your car will effect your ET and trap speed.
For 1/2 events, I have no idea what those numbers would equate to. Is 100 WTQ supposed to yield no difference in 1/2 trap speed? How many mph should you gain for each additional WHP you add? Is there a formula for figuring this stuff out like there is with drag racing? I think these are all legitimate questions, unrelated to how this "showdown" ended up.
I definitely agree with that. I was bummed they didn't have the 1/2 mile trap setup and wish they also provided times.
But hopefully the Vbox data will shed more light.
Anyway like I said I like the AP itself and it's self service capabilities.
I'm just trying to make sense of the dyno data that's just so variable.

Congrats on the run 191 is screaming at this point you are hitting a wall of air it takes a LOT of hp to go faster, I just ran 164 in the half mile with about 670 crank hp. a 918 with 887hp ( actually it had the factory upgrade so probably around 910 crank hp ran 172mph, so it took well over 200hp to go 8 more mph. think about that...

I definitely have a big time interest in a Y pipe. Will look forward to seeing dyno data on Champion's Y pipe when it come out. I really wanted the IPD Y pipe (more than the plenum). It just did not fit with my Champion ICs. Heaven knows Champion put it on and tried to make it fit but it did not work with those rigid carbon tubes coming out of the Champion intercoolers.
As for headers if there are headers that gain power I would want them. I was all ready to put the FVD headers on permanent until I saw the dyno results on my specific car. But if there are headers out there that make more power I would want them. I will be getting the VTG upgrade so I would want to find headers that gain power with an upgraded VTG.
I am willing to put anything on my car that will make it go faster without undue risk to the drivetrain. I am not putting on water meth due to my fear of a malfunction and potential damage and because I do not want to lose half or more of my frunk. I use my car sometimes and not just for events. The full frunk is invaluable to me.
