With the right tires and a good DA it is possible. Slap on the Mickey Thompson ET Streets!
I just bought some centerlock 18" OZ's with MT's matching black with my front OEM wheels...so should keep the sleeper look. I will be driving to the event with them so a 500 mile round trip. At Famoso even with R888's I've never cut below a 1.6. It's a crap track. Records are never set there.
With the MT's however I'm hoping for low 1.4's which should put me very comfortably in the 9.7-9.8 range given my 1/8 and 1/4 mile traps. It won't be easy though as I'm sure the car will not like the added grip and will likely cause some glitches like the 1-2 shift delay but I plan on doing a crap load of launches with the MT's before attending the event so the PDK / drivetrain can adapt.
The 991's don't make enough power or have enough grip yet (unless someone gets DRs) to get there (9's) at Famoso.

I think you'll be fine on the 1-2 shift. The only time I see that funk there is when you don't get a good launch, even the 991s. The few that I saw at the recent track rental all had it after some slip on launch. 1-2 would short shift which I think hurt their times. I saw it in the COBB logs too. I think r888s would be the ticket for sure on the 991s for now at the power levels they are at. Atco was prepped well and even heating up the tires before runs yielded spin at launch.
I do think practice launches will help regardless when you get the MTs on. Should launch pretty hardcore.

I agree a little slip is good for the Pdk at these power levels. 10.0 is a good safe place for me.

Yes the morning at Atco was frustrating for me. Good DA but could not launch at all. Tons of spinning. I was regretting not putting the MTs on the rear for the event. Did launch much better in the afternoon but the DA sucked (for Atco) then.
I never looked but do they not make toyo r888s for the 991 size? Even just rears if anything
R888s are available in 315/30/20 (so same wheel diameter and aspect ratio just 10mm wider. I suspect that they would fit. Tires experts here do you agree?
Great results out there guys. Cobb cars truly look dominating at this event and knowing GIAC usually has more conservative tunes having run them on other cars it comes to me as no surprise. However I can't help but notice how plain arrogant some of the posts in here sound especially from Sam in response to Tom. Sam I'm sorry but why is that tone required? You sound like a 12 year old and definitely not like someone who has been around cars a long time. Did you suddenly start making sales and sell your soul or something? I am really sorry for posting this but you sound like an a** sir and I didn't take you as one before. It used to be good helpful Sam. Questions asked in my view were legitimate. If you'd like to argue and bash my post as well have at it. I don't need a deal. I also can't be bought for car parts. What's the matter with people?
Obb,
Sam and Tom are good friends and true professionals that happen to be in the un enviable position of developing competing products. I can only imagine the tension that creates between them. I don't see anything remotely like what you are describing from Sam anywhere in this thread. Try to keep in mind that it's easy to misinterpret tone with the written word. Speaking from experience, I have consistently received the absolute best service from Sam and I think if you look over his posts again, you will notice that he is just trying to keep fights from breaking out while giving due respect to his friend Tom.
You might learn a thing or two from that approach.
All the best,
- Patrick
