GIAC vs COBB, which one is more durable and reliable for 991TT? How do you think?

Thank you
This is a tough question to answer because nobody keeps overall records of reliability data except perhaps the tuners. And I don't think most tuners would be willing to release that information. So far I have not heard from the community here of any blown engines or PDK failures associated with either a Cobb or a GIAC tune on the 991 Turbo or Turbo S.

I do know of a few turbo failures or leaking seals on the turbos but I'm not intimately familiar with the details of each one so I would prefer not to speculate and rather let the owners of those cars, some of whom are members on these boards, speak for themselves beyond that which I heard.

One car was using Cobb Accessport but had a huge custom tune, NOS, C16 and meth and was being pushed to it's limits in search of a world record so that is not really a surprise. If you push a car that hard you know the risk of breaking is greater. The owner of that car is a very saavy modder and holder of some world records for stock turbos. My understanding with that car is that the turbos had some seal leak issues but that the turbos themselves were OK.

Another car which I know had OEM turbos that needed to be replaced had both a GIAC (first) and a Cobb (second) at different times, car had a lot of miles on it for a 991 and most of those miles were before the owner received upgraded intercoolers which would help the turbo issue immensely by keeping IATs down.

The cost by the way of replacing the turbos is much less than replacing the PDK or the engine.

Bottom line is there's no database of mods and failures so it's a tough question to answer unless the owners themselves say what happened. Almost all the 991 Turbo owners I know whom have either Cobb or GIAC tunes have had no issues at all at least in terms of failure of major OEM parts to date. Of course these cars are still fairly new and most of them don't have many miles.

So in a nutshell I have no hard data as to whether Cobb or GIAC is more durable reliable. Question is best put to the tuners themselves in terms of the experiences they've had with the cars they've tuned.
