Question for anyone out there with a 991.2 turbo s and has used cobb OTS. I put the Cobb OTS stage 1 on my car and since I didnt have access to a dyno ran a vbox from before and after and the car got slower and seems to have lost power. Lost about a tenth across all acceleration tests and 1mph in the 1/4. Seems odd as the last time I ran a cobb on a 997.2 turbo s it ran very good. It was their 100 octane ots map vs this 91/93 stage 1 map though. I am guessing the car may just need a pro tune to make the power it should. I added some cat by pass on the car and it picked up 5mph so that was a plus. If I could get a tune to add some power next should be set.

I had a very similar experience in my 991.2 turbo. It is slower in stage 2 Cobb tune OTS than it was stock.

I have said that for months. I ended up with a COBB tune and it does exactly what the dynos on their site say it would - gives me better low-RPM throttle response and the same or less top end power.

It sucks, frankly.

They de-tuned it from v106 to v107, almost certainly because what happened to the diesel tuners when the government noticed that they were bypassing emissions standards. The Pro Tuners are likely keeping older loads around to work from, as well, because COBB said in January-ish that they were no longer going to allow bypassing the O2 sensors in software.

 

K, I have confirmed it. COBB Stage II ran 6mph slower in the 1/4 mile than the Stage I file on the same car.

Figure that out. I did it yesterday at the track, with the Stage 1 file it ran 10.59@132.xx and that was with a bit of wheelspin in 15C weather. Same car, same day with the Stage II file ran 10.980 @ 126.x best, with some in the 124 range. Car was either pulling power or ... well, must have been that. It did not feel as strong, from the driver standpoint.

 

Sam reached out to me and will work with him to get the power the Cobb should have come with. Just a heads up for anyone looking into it. This a lot of money to spend to go slower and have to pay a Pro Tuner to fix the issue. Very disappointed in Cobb and was hoping it was just me with the issue.

Only update I have is that COBB says their current tune is "always" the best for the car, ignores any of my questions or concerns because I'm not claiming that the device won't load a tune. I wrote them a scathing review on their site and they just removed it, with no comment at all.

In other words, COBB knows what's going on here and just doesn't care.

 

Man, Do realize how bad their hands are tied with this EPA stuff. They CAN’T say anything other than what they’re saying. I come from the high modded Diesel truck world and personally know people / shops that were completely shut down and fined Millions of dollars over their deleting / tuning stuff.

It’s a play on words when they say “It’s the BEST for the car”. They’re having to mean “Legal” for the car.

Fact is, these days if you want more, a custom/ pro tune is the way. It’s not their fault this is happening. Well, you know what I mean. They either do what they’re doing and “play by the rules” or THEY GET PUT OUT OF BUSINESS!!!! And Fined probably Millions!!!

So, yes it will cost a bit more to achieve the goals, but the “TOOL” is still there and that’s the key. If they don’t play by the rules, then that TOOL goes away too!!!! For everybody!!


Trust me... I know the extra money and step for a custom tune sucks, but having the whole party ruined for us all, will be much worse in the end.

I hope you can not only understand all this but Accept it’s just the way the future is going to be with this stuff.

Then why offer a tune at all if it's going to make your car slower? That seems really **** policy to me.

 

I had a similar problem. I reached out to Sam at byDesign, and he fixed everything for me. Car is running great now 🙂

 

Remember, it's "playing the game" at this point. That or go out of business.

If you think about why they offer the tune, knowing most will go "pro / custom", then you'll understand.

They more we keep talking / posting about this, the WORSE it'll get for everyone!!! The powers that be DO watch these sites!! Trust me.

 

Update from me was having Sam come in and work his magic. This is what Cobb should be giving us for the money they charge. I cant say enough good things about Sam and how fast, friendly and on top of it he is. I wish Cobb would discount what they sell since we need to pay more to have tuned after the point of sale.

For anyone looking talk to Sam before you buy and budget in a protune to get anything out of the Cobb.
