My car is in port

As hinted to me at the Dubai 911 launch, got a call from my salesperson that my car is in port and that I should pay up to get car by Feb 1.

Also he is trying to sell me dealer paint protection for $680 but I absolutely believe that to be a total waste of money, it's unnecessary at a minimum. Any opinions on this issue?

Congratulations!!!!!!!! Enjoy and please give us some feedback and pics!

I wouldn't buy that paint protection but I'm not big on that kind of thing anyway. It's a car right.....let nature take its course.

^ the only paint protection you should be getting is a clear bra from a reputable shop. No kits, a custom installer who has been in the biz for some time with references.

I didn't even get the bra, nothing - I find if you are careful on the highways (stay away from trucks) then you will be fine.

sorry, but I have found that to be NOT the case. Regardless of the facia and hood, which WILL get hit, the rockers and rear wheel well are also protected.

My dealer is willing to deliver the vehicle to me on Feb 1 or 2nd but I am postponing taking the delivery to Sun morning (yeah it's a working day here) Feb 19!! Had I taken it on Feb 1 I probably would have been the first to own one on this forum which might have been nice but unfortunately my schedule does not allow it. I am travelling the first half of Feb!

Any other 991 penders out there that might delay receiving the car beyond the time the dealer is ready to deliver?

Take it from a detailer that specializes in in Porsches, don't bother with the dealer detail or any paint protection plan...it's just a sealant. Instead, do get some quality detailing products and do the work yourself. If you let nature take its course as mentioned above, you'll be sorry. The sand and sun issues you guys have there will do a lot of damage to your car if not cared for properly. Nothing on the car, other than the glass, comes protected from the factory. Let me know if you're interested in any products. We ship worldwide. At a bare minimum, get this kit to do the outside

Congrats on the car! IIRC every new car I've purchased the owners manual always states not to wax the car in the first few months? Any thoughts, why would they say that? Obviously we see posts here about "new car detail" etc prior to delivery. TIA
