From 997TT.2 to 991s
From 997TT.2 to 991s
Drove into the dealer with a TT and walked out with a 991s. While that wasn't exactly the plan (at least not the one I had told my wife), recent history would show I have no ability to resist whatever is new from Porsche.
Car is a black/black "launch car." Not sure there is a launch edition, but do note from looking at dealer online inventories, that about 50% of the cars come configured like this one in this first batch. Car has the premium package, sunroof, pdk, bose, but not the PDCC or the SC package. While i would have preferred the performance stuff and could have had them for a July/Aug delivery, i got impatient. I will likely go to the new TT anyways when available in 24 months or so.
Very little seat time so far (less than 50 miles), but here are some of my thoughts. I think it is worth noting that a low mile 997TT is a reasonable alternative price wise to even a base 991:
(1) was an "only manual" guy, but decided to take the plunge on the pdk. Partly, because i am thinking the manual is in jeopardy on 991TT (think 997TTS was sending us a message). Having a lot more fun with pdk than I thought.
(2) fun to be in car where i have to work it a bit more. Or said another way, in this car i can aggressively (but sanely) get about 50% out of her on the street. On the TT, it feels like you are always getting 30% out.
(3) someone wrote that that jumpy "red wagon" feel of 911 is gone. I totally agree. personally, i have no less sense of road feel and don't mind that skittery feeling being dialed out of it.
(4) i have a Cayenne so the new interior stuff is pretty familiar. I guess it is a nice improvement. I would say that the amount of refinement in this "base" 911s is about on par to the TT. Some improvement over the past, but certainly this car is nowhere close to Aston, etc. That is fine with me, not too important
(5) i don't see the physical dimensions of the car (size approaching it or size while driving) as being any larger in my eyes.
Thanks to all those who posted before me. As is always the case, your impressions start stirring my interest in the new car and I am just a sucker walking into the dealership!

No PDCC I can understand (very unnecessary), but no SC in a pdk launch car is beyond comprehension.
Any way enjoy it, I suspect you'll keep it only a year coz just wait and see the 991 turbo will be available in 12 months top.

I have a 997TT too and bought a 991. I decided to keep my Turbo for now. 991 is a different car. My 07 is worth maybe 80K 991 was 117.

, enjoy in good heath. I love the impulse purchases, the most fun of all with that huge adrenaline/excitement rush!
