Thinking About A 991

Hello All
Been a member of 6Speed a long time and lurk everyday but post rarely.
Anyway, I've sold my CLS 55AMG Merc and I'm looking to get back into the Porsche fold and the 991 has grabbed my attention.

I had been set on getting a lightly used 09 997TT (owned a 993TT and 996TT) but all the rave reviews on the 991 have me re-thinking my position. I've got a test drive scheduled for Saturday.

I've messed around with the configurator and have come up with the following should I pull the trigger:
Carrera White
Full Blue Leather
Power Sports Seats
Premium Package Plus
Bose Audio Package
Delete Model Designation
PDK
PASM Sport Suspension
Sport Chrono Package
Fire Extinguisher
Instrument Dials in Black
Mulit-function Steering Wheel
Fuse Box Cover in Leather
Deviated Stitching
Porsche Crests in Headrests

I'm not going to order the sunroof since I detest the way it looks when open and would never use it anyway (I've been told I need to order it for resale but I don't care). I plan to use the car mainly for pleasure and will not track it. I plan to drive it as often as I can except for winter, when the car will be garaged.

I would like to keep the car between 115-120K and this drops right about in the middle.

Sorry about the long post.

An interesting build rockyrap. I assume no PDCC due to not tracking the car and no Burmester to hold the budget. So, a few questions for your consideration:

1. If you are not tracking the car, do you really need a fire extinguisher?
2. If you take Bose plus deviated stitching plus crests, and the fire extinguisher, how close are you to the Burmester?

For the items in #2, I actually think the deviated stitching adds the most individuality, but that is a matter for your personal taste. I notice you live in North Dakota, so does your commute include a lot of long distance travel? I think the Burmester adds a lot for a DD but if you are just listing to talk radio, you may not agree.

Good luck with your choices. I am also considering ordering a 991 toward the end of the year, so I am paying attention to the options people are choosing.

Thanks Ispain
The fire extinguisher is only $150 and I have actually come across a new car on fire on the highway and had he had a fire extinguisher, he might have saved it, and then again, maybe not. Nearly bought an 08 Turbo a a year or so ago and it had the fire extinguisher option and it was pretty slick.

Not sure about the cost of the deviating stitching but I'll find out more Saturday. Can't imagine it's all that bad, but I could be wrong.
But you're right, I think I'll ditch the crests on the headrests.

As far as the Burmester, I thought about it but as nearly all of my listening while driving is satellite radio, I think it'd just be a waste, but we'll see, I'm not adverse to the idea. What the hell's a couple of grand more at this stage.

I'll be retiring in a couple of months so the car will for pleasure use only, long drives to who knows where...

Thanks again for your thoughts.

Rocky,

Only question is why PASM sports if your not tracking.

Great build with or without it.

Best

i just got out of the 997TT and into a PDK 991S.

I am having a blast. Previously was very skeptical about PDK, but now I won't go back. Also love the smoother ride with improved handling.

go for it!

1.I am a new 991 owner and my favorite thing is the PSE.
2.Agree with buckwheat, I can't see the need for SPASM.
3.My urban driving experience tells me pdcc is also non-essential because even without it I can't come close to pushing it's handling ability to the limit (and I do try).
4.Consider colored wheel caps, a low cost option.

It is an interesting build, but Porsche is all about individuality. I personally haven't seen the deviating stiching so cant comment on that. I think that the crests on the headrest add a very very slick touch to the car. Sport Chrono is a must with the PDK, and even if you don't track the car the SPASM does add a very nice look to the exterior with its lowered suspension and larger front spoiler. New Bose is significantly better than the old Bose, so unless you really listen to a lot of high quality music you won't need the Burmester. I also assume as you're retiring, you are and older gentleman and probably don't blast your music very loudly. If you are older and you do blast your music, you sir are awesome in my book! Also, I think the model delete is a good choice, to me it just looks cleaner and more modern with the new body.

Here's the thing about Porsche, every single option is just that optional. There is not a single thing you couldn't live without and not have an amazing ownership experience. So I always try and tell people when picking options only you can decide whats best for you. If you want a leather fuse box, then go for it. It's these little things that will tickle your fancy and make the experience worthwhile for you. I'm personally pulling the trigger on some high dollar options but I know plenty of people who would scoff at them. Your best bet is to get as much seat time in different Porsches at your dealer to decide what options are going to work for you. Just my .02 cents.

Hey, thanks everyone!
Ummm, I'll be turning 61 in a couple of weeks and yes Ptarded, I do play my music loud...have to in order to hear it...must be from my old drag racing days...my earbone ain't what it used to be. I've never been a BOSE fan and am even less a fan of base audio systems. We shall see.

As for the SPASM, i just like the looks of the spoiler and the lowered suspension. Gotta remember, in North Dakota there isn't a hellva lot urban driving going on around here, at least in the part of the state where I live.

And there is a reason for the leather-covered fuse box. If it's exposed and looks anything like the black plastic cover in the 997, I want to cover that thing up so it disappears into the rest of the interior.

Colored wheel caps noted.

An aside for aamersa...like your 991 build, but I noticed in an earlier thread on blue interiors that you had considered it for your Guards Red 991.
The 08 Turbo i nearly purchased was Guards Red and had Sea Blue leather everywhere. For a minute I thought it was black but that combo looked absolutely amazing to me. If Yachting Blue is as dark a hue as the Sea Blue was, I may yet re-think my exterior color choice.

Anyways, thanks everyone for your input. It's much appreciated.
Let the fun begin!

Stitching, if done consistently throughout, will bring a nice price tag to the options list. Considering its thread and they have to use something anyway.

PT:
You're so right. Just saw another build with the stitching. To do it right, the bill comes to around $3,500 or so.
Think I'll pass.
Thanks

Have you had a chance to see the 991 in person yet? I recommend it. It changes your mind on a few things. I personally dislike the multifunction wheel and prefer the aluminum-look Sport Design Wheel - the PDK flippers are better on the SD wheel.. And in person the sunroof is neat. Looks like modern art. And it's technically sound and well engineered. Porsche says you can exceed 120mph and have no buffeting/wind noise. They did a good job.

Deviated stitching is killer. But it delayed builds a few months ago so I went without.

But this stuff is all personal of course and I'm just offering opinion - enjoy the process!!!

I would question the value of the full leather option and personally would go with the sports exhaust. Don't know how you drive, but I would suggest sports design steering wheel in lieu of the multi-function wheel, for PDK the paddle shifters are so much better on the sportdesign wheel than the thumb toggles on the multi-function wheel.

For those trying to decide on full vs seat only leather - it's completely personal of course. But partial (seat only) leather gives you vinyl A-pillars. Full leather gets you Alcantara A-pillars in headliner color.

Just food for thought.
