Any idea of weight savings if one went that route? I'm guessing it's in the 10-15 lb range but would love to see actual numbers if anyone has them.

My reason for asking is I'm thinking about going the base route with manual tranny and putting the car on a diet when it's delivered (mainly via aftermarket exhaust which should save another 30 lbs or so).

I'm thinking it's not too far-fetched to think I can spec the car to where it's around 150lbs lighter than an S. Add some lightweight wheels and I think this car would be a contender.

I'd love to be the guy that paces or passes a new S on the track with my base model.

Full disclosure - I'm still leaning towards an S but this option is starting to become more appealing (not the least of which is driven by price of course).

Not a sunroof guy - I don't open them and never have - but on the 991 I have yet to drive with mine closed. I crank up the heated seats and open that baby. It's well engineered because you hear nothing - no wind or anything. It doesn't blow your hair.

I really love it.

I can't answer your weight question but it's a cool thing. And it's very tight and makes NO creaking when open or closed.

Just my two bits. The other day I double parked in the circle entrance of my gym and had my roof open and tail way up. I ran indoors to grab something from the front desk and when I came out it looked so cool sitting there with the roof open and tail up. Very angry - I don't know why but it looked like a Harrier jet with the jet thrust diverters pointed down Or like the blast deflectors on an aircraft carrier - the panels up Ok I'm geeing out.

If I take mine out today I'll take a photo of this appearance.

(Let me add that you should take any and all steps to get an S car. I probably have the heaviest S car based on options - everything from PSE to SPASM and PDCC, PDK 18 way seat motors, etc.... It's freaking scary fast with serious acceleration.)

Good luck - enjoy the process - this is the fun part.

Ya I agree with what Eric says. Shouldn't you just decide if you want the sunroof or not? 30 lbs in a car that will likely be abundantly fast for street use. And if you are serious about tracking, of course you'd be looking at the S for the ponies and brakes.

It does remind me about what they say about the Elise...best way to improve performance of the Elise? For the driver to go on a diet.

Like Eric, I love the sunroof and it is always open.

Not a big sunroof guy so I'm looking at the weight loss as a bonus by deleting it.

chicks dig the sunroof -- wife, concubine, hookers...regardless.

I know you aren't a sunroof guy, but rationalizing buying the 3.4 motor base car by removing the sunroof option and full leather probably is probably not the correct logic. If you aren't a sunroof guy keep it closed

No 991 decorative option really weighs anything unless it's a serious addition such as SPASM, PDCC, SChrono. If you ever DO sell it, your buyer may many it. My dealer doesn't buy back used non-roof cars unless they are dying for inventory.

Dig into these options because they have fine print functionality that goes deep into the car.

SpChrono is not just a clock
SPASM isn't just a coil chop

ahumphrey nailed it. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

If we can help you let us know. Just being devils advocate...

You had me at hookers

I really need to just get over the price difference between base vs S, get the sunroof for resale, and just drive the damn thing!

That-a-boy. Lots to be had in the S car.

Besides. Even non-sunroof guys like to go for a drive on a foggy spring morning where it's still hoodie weather and crack to roof and enjoy the season. It gives us a glimpse of that cab feeling

I had a targa 997 and decided to go w/o sunroof on my 991 order. Partly weight savings up high, but mostly because I prefer the clean look of the roof without lines across it. That, and I was trying to avoid getting the same annoyance I had with the Targa -- the big panel just needs to slide further back. It always seemed like it stopped short, and the same seems to be true w/ the 991, IMO.

Oh, and I would love the weight savings number too. If nothing else to see how silly one of my rationales is.

Targa might be a good option or some. Who knows when though.

I dislike sunroofs. I do not like to open them in Florida. Humidity, bugs, hot sun, wind noise, and mussin' the do.. I do not think they belong in a serious sports car. Thus, I deleted. Just one guys opinion.

I'm not really a sunroof guy either, mine is very rarely open. Was going to leave it off but after a long discussion with my dealers used car mrg I decided to get it. Come trade in time they were leaning towards a position of not wanting a car on the lot without the sun roof. I tend to trust these guys as the GM is a pretty close friend and they know it.

BTW, on the 991 the sun roof is not a DELETE options, you need to ADD it if you want it.
