991(base) cab vs '09 TT cab

Similar to another thread on the board, I'd like to compare the 991 vs a 997 TT. After spending some time at the dealer yesterday, I'm struggling with this decision. After spec'ing the 991, I'm at $107k and change. I can likely get an '09 TT cab in that same ballpark.

Here are the issues:
* It will not be a daily driver
* I've never tracked my C4S so it's not necessarily about a need for more power
* I love the fact that the big depreciation in the TT has already occurred. (I got my '07 C4S 3 years ago and the trade in quote I have is about $7k less now...not too bad in my eyes)
* My wife will be driving this as much as me
* I really like the idea of a new order, and I really like the 991 design
* I don't like that if I get a 991 it won't be an "S" (I'm not ready to jump that high in price)

If it were apples to apples re: depreciation, I think I'd get the 991. I'd like to get everyone's thoughts to see what I'm missing.

Thanks.

This is another tough choice. I think test drives would have to be the decisive factor for me, and I haven't driven a base or cab 991 yet.

They are both going to take a hit. If I was to buy a 991 it would be a 991 S. the problem is a nicely equipped model is hovering near a new 2012 TT. Me I get the TT.

If you not as concerned with power I would go with the 991. Its still plenty fast.

Its new and has all the updated features.

Build it the way you want and get the 991, knowing that if you go to sell that there will be more loss. But you are buying the car to enjoy right?

Thanks for the input so far guys.

One other question - if I end up building the 991, do you have any recommendations on trying to cross-shop other dealerships? There's only 1 in my town, and 2 more within an hour drive. I'm wondering if I could realistically save anything (substantial) if I cross shop.

I wouldn't bother with cross-shopping. I would do some internet research, including getting input from this forum, to determine a reasonable percent discount off sticker, then insist on getting that discount from the dealer.

Also, note that Evo thought the base 991 w/o PDCC was more engaging than the 991S with PDCC, and plenty fast. They also found the performance of the 991 cab to be on par with the coupe. I could likely be happy with a base 991 cab with MT, and nothing beats a cab when the weather's nice!

Thanks Manifold. What's the consensus on discount percentage off a new build?

For me, I would rather get the 09TT. Much faster car, has the wide rear, side vents, more uncommon. Blast to drive and hear those turbo's whistling!

I love the 991 but it will be a few years before we see a TT version.

If it were me, I would get the 997 TT. The 991 base or S, while it may be new now, will always be considered an entry level 911. The TT will always be a more special porsche, even as it ages. It will hold its value better in the future as well.

Agree. The TT is the Porsche for big boys, the GT versions are for the rich boys!!!
