Considering burmester's home speakers start at the price of a boxster I consider this a bargain option in the 991.

I agree. being audiophile myself, i used to own top of the line sonus faber, and i think 5k for burmester pkg is a steal. now the question is do i want it in the car when i want to listen to the engine singing.

Disappointing, the most desiderable car in the world with a 100% engine, coupled with a 1% stereo system.
Somethin tells me it wasn't your GF listening to mama mia elias....admit it..

Btw i thought the Bose in the 997 was pretty good sound for a car....well mine sounds fine anyway. Are you saying the new bose in the 991 is total crap? Doesn't it have a subwoofer? With or without a good engine note you can't own a car like this with bad Audio!

I recall the 997GT3 and GT2 cars had the base bose with no sub and the sound was not that great either. Just couldnt imagine Porsche offering just that or a Bermi at big $.

Oh well....I guess its time to choose whether to mama mia or to not mama mia eh?.

I have not regretted paying for Burmester. It is very good. I can always turn it off when I want to listen to the engine.

God damn'it!
Well, mamma mia is of my GF, that was the first CD i found at home...but it's not that bad...

Maybe it's my 991 dthat doesn't want to play that...

Anyway, i found, maybe, assembly problems where there are speakers, 'cause they rattle even with no bass at all! That was my fault, surely, but my other Porsche's standard stereo was quite good with no rattling at all, at least.

I'm not saying i want the best sound system as a std option, but would like to have more solid doors and speakers that don't vibrate when volume is at +1...

Anyway, that was my fault: next time, next Carrera, will be best audio...for sure!!!

Meanwhile, i'll put on AC\DC Compilation instead, maybe my 991 will play it better!!!

You're a good sport elias. At least you're being honest. A wise man knows when his game is up. Just don't go playing mama mia on any youtube clips you may be thinking of posting up ok....you may wind up with more than just red dots.

Now you didn't confirm if the bose system has a subwoofer? The 997's had the bose speakers and a subwoofer under the rear seats. Does your new car have the sub?

Speed21, i'm too upset not to have choosen Burmester audio on my 991...

Not because i'm an audiophile, but because i HATE those "brzzz-criiick-zzzzz..." when i'm listening news channel or an ENIA song (just to quote another "soft" singer).

I don't know if Bose have a sub, since i have base stereo .

Anyway, even AC\DC does not sounds good...let's listen to myself that is better.

Now, i'm asking a HI FI Stereo Technician to see what he can do for my wonderful car (with a dreadful and cheap stereo...).

Anyway on the 17th of april i'll be in Misano Circuit. I'll surely be listening better music!

Cheers speed21

Automat sound insulation in the doors and under everything you can get at might make a big difference in sound quality for those who went for the base system

No highs, no lows, it must be Bose

No highs, no lows, it must be Bose. It's an old one and still true but these guys do some awesome marketing and sell their 20 year old designs still at huge prices. Their margins must the the highest in the industry. But hey... the other side of the coin..... Are the engineers at Porsche tone-deaf??? They are signing off on the product and customers have been complaining for donkey-years now. My best Bose system was in my C2 99, it went down hill from there.

No worries and look forward to a review on that. Do you have one of those on board camera's in the car to take a video? And i guess retrofitting a Burmiester is now out of the question?.....or can it not be done?

Agree Bose is no longer recognised as being anything special nowadays. It used to be a name synonymous with high end HI FI some years back but ever since moving manufacturing to China, Bose has seemingly gone to relying more on name, turnover and previous laurels instead of actually producing a system that truly is the goods. Shame about that really. The Bose sound in the 997 was good enough though. Not of Burmiester standard but still good enough for a sports car.

I used to have a 2010 S4 with the lower end Bang & Olufsen system (compared to the A8 or new BMW 6 or 7 series). I drove both the S4 and the 997 C4S in quick succession and came to the conclusion that my 60K S4 has a MUCH better sounding system than the Bose that came with my 997 C4S. I don't listen to a lot of bass, but I was still able to appreciate the clarity difference between the 2 systems.

If I were to get a system these days, I would go with the Burmester without hesitation. I tried it on a P4S that I drove and completely fell in love with it.

Hi speed21,
they told me, they'll provide me an on board camera to record my laps...then i'll post something...
No, i think you can't upgrade to Burmester aftermarket, but an hi fi specialist told me you can upgrade the system making it become something very good...we'll see..!
