BOSEŽ Surround Sound-System and more...

Hi guys,

some days ago, in another thread, i sayed i was satisfied with base stereo player in my Porsche (2001 model).

I have to admit that in my new C2S 991 the Base Music Player is really a BASE system...

Some one of u could tell me if it is possible to install BOSE Surround Sound-System or maybe Burmester Audio after market?

just to upgrade that audio who sounds like Hinno-Hit '80 car stereo.

Thank u all!

You can't get the Porsche factory Bose or burnmiester aftermarket. You can however find an audio shop that will install a high end aftermarket system for you. There may be PCM implications, but if you want better sound that is the only way to go.

Well, i intended "if an official Porsche dealer, may install the Official Bose system...", like u can do with PSE for example.

Anyway, thank u very much for your reply 19hole.

i'm on the same boat. I didn't order bose/burmester. total price ended up becoming a lot more than I initially budgeted. I also don't like the sound quality of BOSE as it's got no deep staging sound, yet only deep bass. I may have to consider adding Burmester seriously before it's too late as my order is not locked yet.

is the base audio system that bad? how bad can it be on a $100k+ car?

the dealers say that they cannot install either the Bose or the Burnmiester after the car leaves the factory. I have been told that the parts can't be ordered. Even if they could get the parts, it would be a significant amount of work. The amps and the sub-woofer are built into the car and all of the interior panels would need to change.

Tachyon, if you can I would suggest changing your order to get it done when they build the car.

I got the base system in my order as well. The 997 GTS I owned had a base system. The head unit is not bad in the base system, but the speakers are really poor. I put JBL power series speakers in the car and the sound was excellent. I added a small sub in the back seat floor passenger side for pennies compared to burmiester. I have completely replaced head unit, speakers and added subs to some of my porsches for much less than burmiester, with a great sound.

Bottom line..find a reputable installer, add the speakers first..see what you like

I've ordered a cab, so I could really care less on this one.

I heard the Base system and thought it was great ... I had posted here about it because I was considering re-ordering my car to include the BOSE but the dealer had a car in with a base and after I heard it I was very happy.

I even checked the window sticker to make sure it really was the base because it sounded much better then I expected.

I have the Bose in my 997.1 and the new base 991 system blows it away IMO.

I have the BOSE system and everyday hate it more and more. It's paltry, plastic cuppy, midrange galore. Neither highs nor lows. God forbid you put it in surround mode. It separates the sound and really thins it out. You lose any punch that might have been there. It's unfortunate that the $2400 BOSE system can't touch the BMW HK premium sound that is $1450 in the flagship X5/M3.

Having the Bose in the Cayenne and Targa I can tell you from experience its night and day even when you are only listening to crappy XM Radio. I am guessing it has something to do with the size of the car but all the BOSE equipped 911s I have been in stink.

BTW the HK in my BMW 530 (2004) * M5 (2008) was probably the best system I ever had in any car (was not too expensive either). The next best I have ever heard is the B&O in the new 6 series - amazing. Either way I really think that in the 991 you either go Base or Burmester because Bose is not a step up.

UHN - agreed. I've been only listening to MP3 recorded at 320 and it's still meh.

When you do get the bass up high enough to sound quasi-normal it rattles the speaker grills. And i'm not pumping rap.

For comparison I cranked up my iPod music in a Burmester car - REALLY loud and had no speaker grill rattling. They do a lot to the insulation and frequencies in that setup - such a great thing.

Next time

So right EricP!!!! That's it!!!

Unbelivable! My ex car (BMW 335) of 60K had a much better stereo...

LOVE MY 991, but...how disappoijnted about this...

That's disappointing to hear as I ordered the Bose.

However, I recognize at this point in my life that I am not an audiophile. I have tried over the years to hone my hearing, but I think I just don't have the ears to tell the difference between good and really good.

I really liked the sound of the system in the e92 M3.

Well Sapster,
i'm not an audiophile too. But as i'm sure, you too are able to recognize between good, normal and bad audio.

Just for example: i put in "Mamma mia cd" in the stereo (ok guys, sorry...that was of my GF...), the speakers where rattling even at amedium\low sound level, with bass on 0...

Disappointing, the most desiderable car in the world with a 100% engine, coupled with a 1% stereo system.

Elias..really..ALL porsche BASE sound ordinary. See my post above. go to an installer and just have ONLY the speakers replaced. Sound will be night and day.

Bose owners...same thing some good power speakers can radically improve your sound. Easy installation, and no fooling with MOST or any other FO cables. BOSE speakers famous for "no highs, no lows".

I have done this to all cars I have owned
