Wheel and Tire Insurance Price

My dealer offered me a 5 year Wheel and Tire insurance plan for $2100.

I would like to get this type of insurance, but that price seems excessive.

What type of pricing have you been offered?

Edited to add:

Are there any alternatives to buying this from the dealer?

Mine was under $900 and includes replacement for cosmetic damage. The dealer can pretty much set the price, sounds like yours is making a pretty good profit on this one!

In the dealer's defense, the roads are awful around here. I imagine the rate of claims in the area comes into it.

I live in Queens, NY and I have not seen any roads.... More like potholes with a little patch of a road....

With wheels and tires this expensive I'd like to have the insurance too...but not for $2,100. Have you checked to see if you can buy it from a Porsche dealer in another state? It's on my list of things to do.

I would want them to be close to me in case I need to use the insurance. I was quoted $1,800 from Beverly Hills Porsche!! Kind of ridiculous I thought. It covers chipped windshield, lost key, and if one tire is more worn than a new tire then they will replace both.

With all that said, 1,800 is ridiculous IMO.

My was under $900 in Connecticut, windshield chips should be fully covered by your auto insurance. Felt it was a good value.

$900 is definitely a good value. I would do it if it was that much but anything more and I think it would be ridiculous.

This is really a tought call. But look at the numbers....A 20" rear tire from Tire Rack is $564 + shipping. I would guess it is at least $20 to ship. Add to that at least $30 to mount and balance. That is about $614. It doesn't take many claims to get to $1200.

On my 2009 997.2, I had 3 rear tires (305-35-19) replaced under my warranty. I think I was pretty much ahaead of that policy as it cost me $600 for 5 years.

Agreed, but I have 19"ers and will not put a lot of mileage on it, so the value proposition isn't as compelling.

Damage a wheel and it makes you want to choke yourself. I never get the insurance and always regret it. You would think it's learn my lesson.

I paid for the insurance as well at Porsche downtown LA, it was $2k, but they cover any nails and pot hole damage to the rim.
