Longer term 991 owners..
Please drive it safely and in good health - I don't like the fact that my Dr. freinds have taken to calling them "donorcycles".
LOL.
PS: I test drove it in Sports Plus mode. It keeps the car in HI revs. More like a F1 car.

Excellent question, BW.
I see this post as "How would you improve the 991?" Porsche should be reading this post.
Summarizing:
- Allow radio to be turned off w/o turning nav off. YES!
(Wonder why Porsche can't or won't fix this. Hide the rattling sounds? LOL)
- Real push start button versus fixed turn key starter.
(Amazed how many folks hate this fixed turn key thingamajig. Even the dealer I mentioned this to, kinda apologized for it !! Love push button on the BMW F10. Newer Ferraris have it a push button on the steering)
- Backup Camera option. - An absolute must to go with front/rear sensors. I live in the hills and would love this option.
- Further simplified User interface on electronics, for some?
- improve wind buffeting over 100mph windows down. Remove rattling noticed by a few owners.
- Faster sensing Front and rear sensors (Is it noticed by many? - seems like an issue similar to TPMs in 997.1 versus 997.2. TPM on 997.2 is improved and faster.)
- better / larger console tray to accommodate iPhone 4/4S/5. Not a big issue for me. We'll ask for iPad size next. Wait... someone here already did.
- electronic emergency brake feel needs improvement? Or owners need to get used to it. I still can't get used to it on the BMW F10 and prefer a real hand brake. Glad they didn't put a fake handbrake connected to an electronic switch; weight savings are more important.
- emergency flasher location
- reprogrammed normal mode lower-rpm torque curves
(will this affect normal-mode fuel efficiency?)
- Full interactive built-in user manual in navigation similar to BMW F10. Or go a step further and have a help mode. Press a help button and then button you need help on and nav displays the help.
==========
PS, Seems like PSE is the most loved option.

Inside the trunk, there is a plastic container that holds the tire repair kit that falls off every so often. When looking at it closely, it looks, feels, and actually IS cheaply made and poorly designed. Certainly NOT what I would expect in a $100k car.
And yes, the electronic GUI needs work.

Love the Ducatis! I am currently between Ducs but have had several. Would really like a Desmosedici.
So back to 991. I am at 2 months and 3,000 miles. I only have a couple of issues with the car.
- Having the windows or sunroof on the highway is really noisy. Driving on the highway (anything above 80mph) with just the sunroof open is awful. At 100mph it is not an option because the wind deflector retracts… allegedly.
- The PDK shift buttons on the wheel and the backward shifting of the gear lever. Every race car on the planet that uses a sequential gearbox, uses a pull on the lever to upshift. So why does Porsche feel they need to ignore this?
Everything else I really like. There have been two recalls (fuel pump and a PDK software upgrade). And one PASM fault. Took it in on Friday. They can see the fault but not sure why it is happening. They had to open a ticket with Porsche. I did get 27mpg the other day on an hour long trip with all the windows open on the highway. I have the Burmeister stereo. Being a techie and music guy, I really think it is worth it.

no no no. Ride it. I put 10k miles on mine is 4 years. May not sound like a lot but that was in Cleveland with a limited summer. Plus I could not ride it to work.
I've had mine 3 months now and agree with most here. Awesome car and hands down the best DD out there. I've always been a huge fan of PSE and have had it on 3 other Porches. I love the blips and burbles on downshifts but get tired of the induction noise inside sometimes. I would like to keep the PSE on all the time on the outside and turn off the induction/fake part on the inside. It's the only option I got that I could do without because without it, the engine sounds so sweet as it is. Love the seats, ride, comfort, keyless go, nav, etc. Wouldn't trade it for anything. I made the dumbass mistake of ordering it without satellite radio but am finding I like Pandora over the iPhone better anyway. And for the iPhone thing, I have a small leather pocket that sticks on the side of the console that is made for it.

With Pandora connected via Bluetooth, you definitely can do without sat radio (specially if you have an iPhone with no limits on data!).
On the iphone front, consider taking the actual ashtray out (smoker's package). Then you have room for a bare-naked iPhone.
.
Long term now means 9 weeks for me. And it finally happened. Rain today so I drove my little Subaru...and I reached out with my left hand to release the electronic parking break that was not there. You really can get used to anything!
The "induction/fake" sound gets to become tiring and, as you said, it is FAKE! Today I accelerated going into a tunnel and inside the car the sound is so amazing that thought I was flying, but then while in the tunnel I opened the windows and realized that it is all happening inside your car only! (I need to try the same in Sport or Sport Plus mode to see if there is a difference.)

I hate being clueless but what is everyone talking about being fake? I knew the new M5 is going to put exhaust sound through the speakers. Is Porsche doing the same? I have the sport exhaust. When I go thru tunnels full blast is sounds awesome.
there is MUTE button for the stereo
