In regards to Sapsters find...

what has grown on you about your 991 since you picked it up?

What do you like more about it?

Anything that you find you like less about it?

Buckwheat,
What a great question! Although, long term in my case is only 6 weeks.
Negatives first. Still dealing buffeting and a rattle in the driver's side door. And though it might be that I am a bad driver, I still an having scraping issues - I am going to get something done about that soon! The electronics are very powerful, but almost too complicated for me - especially with voice control. But I am learning, slowly (old dog and all that). And for me, the sight lines and blind spots in the coupe are significant. I am scared to suggest even more gadgets, but a back up camera as an option would not be a bad idea. I wish the storage compartment in the arm rest was deeper, that they provided a more convenient place to plug in a trickle charger in the winter, and the turn the key thing for the key-less entry is just silly, tradition or not. Give us a button like the rest of the world.

Positives - things I like more than I expected. It is a very comfortable car - not like a Merc sedan, it is still a sports car, but comfortable. The Jeckel/Hyde thing with sport and sport+ impresses me more every day. I love the bigger wheels and the platinum finish more than I ever thought I would. And the electronics, while complex, is much better integrated than in my 2010 - it came a long way in 2-3 years (still not as good as in my friends 2011 Audi S4). The nav screen in the dash and how it works with the main nav display is particularly helpful.

And i love it's lines, more and more, every day. Another friend at work just bought the car I sold, only a few years older - 2006 997 S cab in silver and black. It is a fantastic looking car. But, parked nose to nose with mine, while they are soo similar on many levels, the are soo different, and I think that Porsche made a great looking car even greater.

Based on other threads and some more aggressive driving, I can see why some would prefer the driving dynamic of the 997, especially at the track. I like the 991 better for every day and I find the overall advantages in the driving dynamic when driving hard to more than make up for any loss in steering talkback - there is still plenty for me, in retrospect, the 997 was too much, especially for normal conditions (JMO).

It is a great car!

Have you looked into the scraper plugs?

I'm with you, I hate talking to myself.

Agreed, just couldn't afford it from Porsche.

Fantastic, I'm old but sometimes I try to fool myself into thinking I'm young.

That struck me immediately.

It is a great car!
Thanks for the impressions.

Taking delivery in 2-3 weeks of a cabriolet. I'll report back after a month or so with feedback.

I don't think you are bad at all - I have found you a great help! And I am looking forward to meeting you! Noone smart enough to adopt the name Buckwheat could be all bad.

Seriously, the 991 may not be for everyone, but it is for me. It is the best car I have ever owned - even better than my Mazda B2300 pickup truck with genuine vinyl everything and a three rodent-powered engine!

@AG991: my manual talks about voice control, but I can't find the button in the blinker arm, so obviously no VC. Does it only come with a particular option? (I have lots of options already).

KevinC is infamous around these parts
Dislike
Auto start/stop - Turned it off when I took delivery and it has been off since then.
Torque curve - I would like more torque at lower RPM's in normal mode.

Like
PSE - I almost excluded this option...would have been a big mistake as the sound is incredible.
Sport and Sport + - The car has two personalities - very mild mannered in normal mode; however, it is a different animal in sport and sport + mode.
Ride/Tires - Ride quality is very good.
Handling - Car handles very well and has to really be pushed to break it loose.
Headlights - Better than my BMW 7 series which were the best I'd seen until the 991.
Ventilated seats - I live in Florida and my car is black/black.
Seats - Comfortable and supportive.
PCM - Touch screen is nice.
Multi Function Steering Wheel - I was dead set against this option due to the shifting "buttons" that are on it, but my salesperson talked me into ordering it. I like it and glad he pushed me to order it.

Questionable
Stereo System - Bose is ok, but not great.

Overall
I think they've done a great job with the car and I'm glad I bought one. I originally planned to trade it for a 991 Turbo as soon as they are available, but I may keep the car longer than originally expected.

Bull****:
  • Radio is always on. This is inexcusable. Won't go into it since there is another thread on that topic already.

Poor:
  • The manual. It's high on auto-generated, insulting-to-humans boilerplate text, has very little utility and seems just a carrier for all kinds of stupid warnings. It's impossible to find information quickly and there is no PDF version that might be searchable at least, which in 2012 is just plain lame. The quick-reference cards on the other hand are OK.
  • PCM. Feels like 1995, ages behind say the iPhone and Google Maps (searches must be in canonical form otherwise stuff won't be found, etc.); touch screen is slow, I constantly have to press either harder or longer; pressing 2 numbers in rapid succession doesn't work, touches are not remembered (e.g. inputting "11" gives you only "1")

Questionable:
  • Console tray doesn't fit an iPhone. There is no good place to place an iPhone, which is a bummer. Should've thought about it. The small tray is just a tad too narrow, so iPhone falls out and gets lost under the seats.
  • Rattling. I've had weird rattling noises sounding at different times like loose windows, metal parts, plastic rubbing. Shouldn't be in a $100k+ car, not even after 5 years. Having said that, they change over time, so may be temperature dependent.

Everything else is great. Agree with AG991 and KevinC in most parts:
  • Auto-start/stop: I actually quite like it. We have some super long traffic light phases and I think it's cool to sit there without engine.
  • Coasting: Nice!
  • Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Normal/Sport/Sport Plus): Holy ****!!
  • PDCC: Awesome
  • PSE: a true symphony -- like KevinC I almost didn't get this. Would have been a huge mistake!
  • Sport design wheel: Absolutely love it! Don't like the other wheel at all. It's like tanga vs briefs.
  • PDK: Don't hear this praised enough! The continuous torque is fantastic. And this is from a die-hard MT guy... With Sport Design paddles can still shift manually, which is nice if you know the track by heart.
  • 18-way Seats: I really don't want to get out of them. Even took phone calls in the car just to sit in them!
  • Bluetooth Sound Quality: superb, even with roof open or at 75 mph on crappy California freeways (some didn't even notice I was in the car).

I'm sure I forgot something, but doesn't matter: the car is fantastic, PCM not so much, but hey, it's not a computer...

You have to order it. And there is no way to retrofit - at least that is what I was told when I looked into it for my 997. Sorry

I have had it on 2 BMWs and never used it. I passed on ordering it for the 991.

Glad someone finally said it ......this really frustrates me for some reason!

I really like everything else about the whole cabin of this car...overall quality and fit and finish is excellent IMO......and I personally love all the electronics....Burmester is AWESOME !! ....to me, the touch screen works good...I just realized you can play Pandora through your phone ...the small screen on the right is pretty user friendly as well...its got most everything you need to see (and control) without taking your eyes too far off the road.

Agree with others about PDK, PSE, etc.

Things I dislike....maybe its just me but when I look at the stance of the car, the front is about .5" too high
