Ran out of gas!! 991S

In over 20 yrs of driving this has never happened to me but it did today with my 991. I think the car is very thirsty. Be careful when you are low on gas, refuel early. My car shut down I had to call roadside assistance and after adding some fuel it restarted. I know I have been low on gas many times before with other cars but those cars with a much bigger engine displacement still give you plenty of grace mileage to make it to the pump. Today I wasn't even worried, thought I had enough, but to my surprise it didn't make it to the pump.

I gave it today to dealer for recall issue, they are keeping it overnight.

did the range meter work? Didn't tell you 1Km left or something?

I'm also curious on the range meters numbers as you got closer to running out.

The range meter said "---" Ok, there was no more range showing, but with other cars with such range meters you get a fair amount of time even after the range meter shows no more capacity. With this there was an abrupt cut off soon after. Just be careful is my advice.

Now that I have 4800 kms on it, I can say without having measured mileage/gallon, that the car does go through a tank of gas very fast. It's at least as thirsty as my 4.8 liter V8 Bmw. Is it possible that it was leaking some fuel due to the recall issue ? That may partly explain this episode. I do have a suspicion at least.

I guess I'll have to see if there is any difference after the fix.

I discussed this with my shop when I got the recall letter and they did not believe anything like that could happen (if it was the case, the liability would be so big that it would be an immediate recall with a lot of buzz!).

As far as the mileage is concerned, I have been ranging from 9 mpg (track) to 34 mpg (eco-run). On average, I am around 17-19mg I think...

Was the 34 MPG steady 65MPH highway of 10 miles or so?

i am finding that there are about 450km per tank - it does eat gas; almost like the turbo but a little better.

my hunch though is that the d@m engine/exhaust sound is really to blame; it forces the foot to push the pedal with greator force each time

I can believe that! Induction sound from 4000 to 7000+ is infectious!

I also do not think the recall is serious which is why I took my time to take it in. But the para in the recall letter that prompts my suspicion is:

"There is a possibility that the quick connector on a fuel line on the underside of your vehicle is close to a heating pipe. If the fuel line is close to the heating pipe, this can impair the locking function of the quick connector, causing the quick connector to open and leading to a fuel leak."

They've kept the car a second night. Poor customer service is some thing you should be prepared for if headed this way. It is the way and culture here. They're talking about checking this, checking that etc.... updating software, blah, blah... In reality they probably took forever to even take a first look at the car. They have agreed to flat bed the car back to me.

This is one where I would call the local tech rep or a note to the region manager
