Recall extended mess!!

My car was in dealer for recall fix Tuesday (on a side note I ran out of fuel on way to dealer). Initially I was promised the car back Wednesday but that did not happen and I was then assured a return on Thursday (the weekend here). I followed up during the day 2-3 times but at the end of the day I was told they could not finish the job due to a technical snag and my car is now stuck with dealer all weekend with an earliest return on Sunday.

I also found out they are doing 3 things on the recall.

1. The fuel line issue ( I was aware of this issue mentioned in recall letter and I am told it has been resolved by replacing the fuel line).

2. A front end clamp issue. (What is this ? My service advisor has not been able to explain it but says it has been resolved.) Help?

3. Software updates. Here they have run in to a snag whereby while updating the front end electronics software they are getting an error such that the power steering is now not working, which is why they need to keep the car longer. Help? Why would they need to update software so soon?

The recall experiences I have heard of so far on this forum have been one hour while you wait fixes. Can any one shed more light on this mess? Cause it has me stumped. I am wondering why I took the car in, given that it was working fine so far (except when it ran out of gas).

Can you tell us the build date of your car? I want to see if mine falls into the same timeline, thanks.

It's a Dec build, don't know exact date, but I believe only the Nov and Dec builds are impacted by recall issues.

Hi guys!
I think it's a US recall.
I'm Italian, mine is a march build and no one recalled my car yet...
...i'm wandering if this recall it's caused by emissions law in the us...

Al Nabooda Porsche?! Sorry to hear about your strife... I just ordered one from them so I hope this isn't typical of their service...

Yes, al nabooda. If you've lived in Dubai you already know that inferior customer service is the order of the day across the board. Expecting any thing different from porsche or naboodah so far seems to be just wishful thinking.

Btw, media reports have said that the fuel line issue impacts only cars made from Oct 26- Jan 24th.

Today I found out that they have ordered a new steering control unit. The replacement part will arrive by DHL in 4-5 days. It's funny I thought the steering was perfectly ok, but now they say it is failing to respond in many ways. It's like you go in for a prostate fix and they admit you for a cardiac problem. So looks like my car's stay in service may exceed 10 days by the time it returns, that too if all goes well.
I guess it's the price of admission for owning an early first year model.

You're in Dubai and ran out of gas? Now that's ironic!

Haha! But Dubai doesn't have much oil, Abu Dhabi has all the oil. Dubai gas prices are the highest in the GCC. It costs about $30 to fill up a 991S tank.

But as far as my issue, it is not looking good time wise. They are expecting the part Thursday evening, and with another intervening weekend they won't work on it before Sunday so if all goes well my car will have been in for two weeks before I get it back. Meanwhile I have been asking them to change my replacement car from a panamera to a 911, but so far those cars have been out with other customers.

Sorry to hear that. My build is 02/12, and so far no recall for me.

My 991CS2 Cab arrived, but the dealer claims Porsche will not let them release it because of an unresolved issue with power windscreens.
Anyone hear of this issue?
