Rennlist guy traded 991 back for 997
Although I myself have been waffling about the same choice one of the Rennlist guys actually pulled the trigger and swapped the 991 for the 997 and said he was "smiling all the way home". When I got my 997.2 back in 2008 I never longed for the 997.1 I had traded in. However, I can't say the same about the 991. In fact, I find myself lurking in the GT3 forums and if someone offered me a like new GTS or 2010 GT3 for my 991 I think I would do it tomorrow. Mind you, I like the 991, it is comfortable and beautiful looking but something is just missing. Am I alone here or are others ready to "come out of the closet"?

Sorry - I could not resist. Drive what you love - whatever that is. They are all spectacular cars. A GT3 is much too much a track car for me - I like something more comfortable for every day and a beast when I want it. I might play with some low-end torque improvements, but I like the 991 better - myself. The GTS is a closer call - both great cars. (It is objectively hard to go wrong with anything you are thinking of doing - but don't let Manifold know I said that.

I encourage you to give the car more time. The option to go back to the 997 will be there for a while, and meanwhile you already have the 991, which is a great car. And maybe it wouldn't take much modding to get the car closer to what you're looking for?
Only Carrera and Carrera S are available for now. It will of course feel a lot more comfy and 'filtered' than a 997 GTS or certainly GT3 for that matter. It just depends what type of car you are looking for. In fact I just got my 991S lowered and sitting on firmer springs (SpeedART) and it already feels a little more 997-ish.
Hmmm....coming from a Turbo, I don't see how the power in any of the current 991s will suffice. However, I do like the new design direction for the interior. I'm sure the 991TT will be a beast once it's out.

What is missing? Although the topic has been discussed I keep coming back to the steering feel. The 997 just felt alive and the 991 feels good but not phenomenal. The engine note of the 991, while novel at first, is starting to remind me of a large american v8. It doesn't seem to have that crackly crisp sound unique to the flat six. I am also having a tough time adapting to the electric parking brake. to me the 991 is like a great quality , expensive pair of jeans that are "better" on paper but the 997 are those comfortable jeans that you fit right into and feel at home.

I suggest that you drive your 991 back to back several times with a 997 that you really like, on various roads and at various speeds. Hopefully, that will clarify the differences and help you decide what to do.
I don't think you can compare a 991 CS to a 997.2 GT3 (two very different cars).
If I could have one, I'd take the 2010 GT3 (hands down) for its feel, exclusivity, and because it will hold value better than a standard 991 CS down the road.
I think in this case, you have to compare apples with apples (997 GT3 vs 991 GT3). I will reserve my judgment as to which I think is better when I get a chance to drive a 991 GT3. I suspect the 991 GT3 will be better than the 997 GT3...

Love at first sight
Posted this in my 'journal' but felt it belong to this thread as well.
Incidentally dropped by at my local dealer (Henessy) yesterday and saw this beauty in the show room (Black GT3 RS 4.0 with only 1,000 miles, never tracked
):

Yes I would trade my 991 in for THIS 997... if I could afford it ($100k more than what I paid my 991S).
My salesman (David) was kind enough to let me get my hands all over it. He's been a great support in my dealings with Porsche and hope he will sell this beauty and make a buck on it

YEP - SM_ATL said it all. The GT3 RS 4.0 is the only 997 I'd trade my 991 for. Thing is a freak...
How close to a quarter of a million box was that 4.0? Was it used? I thought they were all sold.

I think it was around $225k. More than original MSRP I think but this is current 'sticker'... up to anyone to negotiate!
This is already a collector and black RS4.0 are more difficult to find than white ones.
