Product selection.

Dear All,

We are picking up our 991s this week but have been asked if we wish to add the following:

Porsche Maintenance Plus

Ibex Surface Protection

Tire & Wheel Plan

LoJack

Scotchguard Paint

UAC new ESC

Key Replacement

Paintless Dent Repair

Windshield Plan

What are necessary/ advisable based upon your experience?

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

Many thanks for your reply- I assume you mean that we can also get some of these after-market? I thought that the Paint Protection would be a good idea (they quote $1195 for the 3M) but I have not shopped around.

I meant don't get them at all. If you can afford the car you don't need any of these. Just take care of issues as and when they arise will be the better way.

Gotcha- thank you.

I just wanted others' experience of the suggested products and their usefulness and worth (from experience).

Many thanks for your reply.

I purchased the wheel and tire plan, I hope I never have to use it. I bought it only because I don't want to have to pay for a replacement wheel, i'm not worried about the tires as much. I had the 3m done elsewhere, cost more but I felt it was worth the personal attention as opposed to "just another car at the dealership."

I only purchased the wheel and tire plan because I got 20" wheels and the expensive because they are new, and only because I got a deep discount. I purchased none of the others.

Get the 3M, before I used it I thought it was kinda like putting a clear plastic cover over your furniture...
But since I tried it once (6 years ago) I won't go without it on any of my rides, the stuff is truly amazing!
Plus if it's done right you can't tell it's on there.

Cheers.

The only ones I would consider would be:

Wheels/tire coverage - I live in NYC too and know how these roads can be. It's nice to have the peace of mind that you won't have to worry about bend 20" wheels. Just make sure of what the upper limit is per year on claims. I've seen a few of these plans where they have a max of $xxxx per year (basically one wheel/tire replacement).

Porsche Maintenance Plus - What's included in this? I assume it doesn't lock you into the specific dealership. If you plan to have all of your scheduled maintenance done at the dealership then it can be nice to just have that cost over with at the beginning. It's usually a savings over paying as you go too.

Paint protection film - I would consider this, but not from the dealership. Go to a specialist. Unless your dealer is very unusual, most dealers use pre-cut film kits for cars. All of the edges are exposed and ugly (especially as it ages). A good specialist will cut the film for your specific car, wrapping the edges around and into the seams in the body work making it disappear.

All of the others are big time passes for me.
