real world mpg on 3.4 991

I only got 14.8 mpg on my most recent tank. This is 90% city driving and consists of many short trips. That being said I am still shocked at how low it is. I don't rev the engine that much and often shift around 3rpms and usually drive in sport mode. Does sport really increase fuel consumption that much or is my car an anomoly

I'm averaging 24.8 with mine with less than 50% highway. I don't regularly use sport mode. It's about 15% better than my 997. What did you get on your 997.

I would get like 190 miles a tank on my 997 and get like 230 now so it's a big improvement. I will stay off sport on this tank and see what happens.

tromero, it's your right foot... you have an acute case of pedalitis!! The cure is putting a tennis ball underneath the gas pedal, :-)

24-25 mpg. On a long trip I averaged 27

What's the pressure in your tires? Comfort Pressure yields low mpg.

I get 22 mpg around town and have seen 29 mpg @ an average of 75 mph over about 150 miles of highway driving. I routinely get 350 - 370 miles from a tank of gas.

Much better than my 997.2, barely gor 315 miles to the tank driving the same routes and at the same speeds.

I'm seeing closer to 15mpg, comfort pressure, 90% dense city driving, usually sport mode. Doesn't sound anomalous to me.

Less than a mile or two trip will also kill economy (with any car).

Most of my driving is city (90%+) and I only drive in Sport mode. I've been keeping log of my refills, here's the last 2 (post 1000 miles on car):
- 280 miles 14.33 Gallons (US) = 19.4 mpg
- 279 miles 14.43 Gallons (US) = 19.33 mpg

p.s. this is with pretty aggressive driving with short trip (1-5miles)

On longer highway trips, the mpg is about 27mpg.

Do you warm the engine first or drive it aggressively from cold?

I have a manual barn door style garage. so the only warm up that takes place is during the time it takes me to close the door (get out of car, close door, get back in car) About a minute max.

I just thought of another factor that would impact the MPG. I rarely, if ever am in heavy traffic. The days/hours i drive the car (although intown) there is not much traffic.

I'll be getting gas later today, i'll update.

You probably know this already, but that's not very good for the engine. I hope you're not planning on keeping the car for a long time.

By that, I'm assuming that you're talking about demands on the engine before the oil temp gets up to speed. In the past, I've tried to really take it easy until 120 and not full power until 150. What do you use for parameters?
